Yep, but nothing sets me to overthinking stuff like a broken car in the driveway.

I bought an alt from Erie expecting a used OEM one and they sent me this Bosch rebuild that can't have more than a few thousand miles on it. Not complaining.

Yeah, that's the voltage at the battery. Before I swapped the alt it wasn't charging at all.

Since the car can run without draining the battery now I let it idle for a while and tested all of the electrical systems last night. Everything works except the AC, which I haven't hooked back up yet. The tailgate open light stays on with the hatch closed so I guess I'll have to fiddle with the latch. The engine runs really well but the injectors are super noisy - I may need to put a couple pieces of lead tape on the back of the injector cover to make it less resonant since the noise is a lot louder with it installed.

Still have a lot of odds and ends to deal with but I'm happy with how it's coming along.

Stellar job. Kudos again for saving it, and glad you worked the alternator in, as that would have bummed me out too. JUST get it repaired and then that happens...

Greens are obnoxiously loud. Try an aluminum 99 style fuel injector cover

It's already got the aluminum cover. I might try the one from my parts XC and see whether it snaps into place a little better.

Car popped its first CEL over the weekend, VIDA says ECM-280A (front O2 sensor faulty signal). Hasn't even left the driveway yet. Oh well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

One of the Atlantis got bent a while back and wasn't holding air so I dropped it off at a shop that specializes in repairing and refinishing wheels today. Should have it back tomorrow, hopefully the tire is still good since it sat flat for a bit.

Got the wheel back, looks round but I guess I'll have to drive the car to be sure.

Should be able to at least take it around the block tonight - I just need to top up the trans fluid since it lost a little from swapping the rad.

I didn't get a before pic of the wheel but here's the after, they did a great job getting the bend out but I didn't realize it was going to leave such an obvious mark. Not gonna sweat it since no one's going to see it with the wheel on the car.

I installed the wheel and took it up and down the block, not gonna drive it further until it's legal but it moves under its own power and it seems to drive OK. It has all the usual P80 squeaks and rattles. The brakes are really rusty from sitting, I'll probably have to freshen them up before I put some real miles on it. Trans seems to shift OK but I couldn't really tell anything conclusive considering the short distance I drove it.

      Horrid pic:

One other concern I have is with the fuel line that feeds the rail. It looks like someone cut it or broke it and spliced in a section of hose. The hose rubs on the corner of the fuel rail so this probably would have worn through eventually - if this car hadn't met a deer it probably would have become a carbecue at some point. Gonna swap it out for a replacement hard line ASAP, hopefully I don't have to disassemble the entire front of the engine to replace it.

Get the OE part....or.....find the HELP(r) brand section in oreilly/checker/kragen stores or online and you’ll find a 90 degree elbow that fits perfectly. Check your hose ID to confirm.

That should be a hard line all the way to the back of the block. Suspect that someone previously didnt know there was a release and cut it to do the PCV.

Good glad the wheel is ok.

When do u plan driving it? For my AWD r 98 it's going to be march.

I need to check the whole airco system. It only works at 15 celcius or below

Not sure when I'll be driving it yet, I want to replace that fuel line first but I'm not going to have any time until after Thanksgiving.

I went on vacation for a few days at the end of last week but before I left I got rid of my XC. Kinda bummed about it but it had 250K on it and a ton of problems. I owned it for more than 5 years, it's the longest I've held on to any Volvo. I didn't get much for it from the yard but having the parking space back and one less car on my insurance kind of makes up for it.

The last few weeks have been pretty crazy but I had some downtime and good weather last weekend so I replaced the front O2 sensor and the spark plugs. The last time I was messing with the car it popped a CEL for a missing/faulty signal from the front sensor and the one that was in there was a no-name parts-store special. It runs noticeably better with the new Bosch I installed. As for the plugs, the old ones weren't in bad shape but I always like having that peace of mind with whiteblocks and the replacements I got (Bosch FR7DPP+) appear to be exactly the same as OE Volvo except for the branding and the price (about $3.50/ea from Rockauto).

I have the rest of the year off work so I'm going to make some time to take care of the last few things it needs to drive to the inspection station. Hopefully I'll be able to get it inspected in January.

We're forecast to have temps above freezing next week so I'm planning to address the fuel line if it warms up enough. I wish I was making more progress with this thing but it lives in the carport so I'm at the mercy of the weather. :/

Finally got a picture of the car in the sun since I had to park it in the street to change the oil in my V50. I need to tweak the front clip a bit to get the panels lined up better but I'm pretty happy with the paint match between the driver's fender and the rest of the body. I received the fuel line from Tasca last Friday and we're supposed to have warm weather this week so hopefully I'll get it swapped. If I feel really ambitious I might try to take the pinstripes off.

They're painted. I'm debating whether to try oven cleaner or lacquer thinner to remove them, since those seem to be the most popular/effective options, but I can't say I'm super excited about putting either of them on the paint, haha.

I dug in to it tonight to come up with a plan of attack for the fuel line (which is gonna be a total PITA) and found out that the engine isn't original, looks like someone swapped in a junkyard(?) B5234T(8?) at some point. Not sure if I want to keep messing with it or just part it, I feel like the franken-car-ness of it is gonna be a turnoff to people if I try to sell it and I don't need another car that badly.

If the engine is healthy, I don't see that as an issue at all.

After sleeping on it I'm probably making a bigger deal of it than it is, it runs fine. Just surprised it wasn't mentioned in the receipts I got.

Wouldn't sweat there being a T5 block in the car whatsoever.

I just finished swapping the B5234T8 and M66 from my old 99 R into my 00 R to replace the B5244T that a PO replaced the factory B5244T2 with.

I say don't sweat the engine code, most people won't care as long as the car runs properly.

Also, 3M makes a pinstripe removal wheel for your drill that is supposed to work very well.

      2000 V70 R -- 04 B5234T9 w/ 18T, Stevo tune, M66, CX Racing coilovers, 996TT front BBK. Always working on something...

I'm going to keep fixing it, I just need to chill out - the car is nearly 20 years old and stuff happens. Seems like a lot of P80Rs have swapped engines at this point so it's not worth bailing over.

Since I snapped pics here's the rest of the fuel line "repair," it looks like whoever did the work cut the pipe. There's a receipt for this repair in the folder I got with the car and I can see why a shop would do this since replacing the entire hard line would probably lead to a crazy labor bill, but they could have taken a little more care to protect the hose. In any case I have plenty of time so I'll go ahead and do it right. I'm debating whether I want to do the PCV since I have access to everything and the stuff that's there looks original.

Swapped the fuel line last night since it was in the 40s. To get access to it, all of the accessories and the bracket had to come out along with the passenger side engine mount. All in all it wasn’t a terrible job but I could have saved a lot of labor if I’d done it when I replaced the alternator.

Make sure you have the check valve in the banjo fitting by the alternator there. The one for the PCV with the 3 tubes. Keeps from pressurizing the block.

I think I bought one for my olive but never got around to installing it - I'll have to go rummage around in my toolbox and see whether I can find it.

      Thanks!

Ordered PCV system parts tonight since Tasca had a coupon, I figure I might as well replace it since I have the engine apart and the stuff that's in there is original.

I found the updated banjo bolt/check valve in my parts stash and I got all the hoses and a new breather from Tasca, just waiting on some hose clamps so that I can knock out the PCV job. I received word last week that I might be getting laid off from my job but I won't know whether I'm affected until 3/5. It won't affect the fate of this project one way or the other, most likely, but I'd like to get the mechanical work it needs wrapped up while I still have some money coming in. If nothing else it has me feeling just a little more motivated than usual, lol.
