I figured it was some sort of ETM weirdness since it still has the original white label module but it turns out the knock sensors were unplugged. I was looking under the intake manifold after swapping ETMs didn't do anything and I noticed the knock sensor connector was just hanging out. Plugged it back in and it runs perfectly with more power and no hesitation (shocking!). I wouldn't be surprised if they'd been unplugged the entire time I've owned the car - you'd think having no signal from them would cause an immediate CEL but I guess not.
Doesn't set a CEL but there will be codes in vida. My 99 has a weird low signal from the knock sensors after the engine swap and i only found out after scanning the car with Vida after it passed emissions

Finally got motivated and took the oil feed line out, I don't think the compression fitting was at any risk of coming loose but I'd rather be safe than sorry. While I was in there I found that one of the bolts that holds the passenger side axle bracket to the block is missing. At this rate I'm going to have to check every fastener.

New oil line is on the shelf waiting to go in - the style I needed turned out to be a Genuine Classic part so it took a few weeks to arrive from Sweden. My V50 is tying up the garage right now - a few weeks ago I hit a curb while I was trying to make a U-turn and it killed the passenger side wheel bearing and busted something in the steering rack (!) so I have it apart to swap that out. It seems like it's going to be easier to swap than a P80 rack but it's still not a fun job to tackle on jackstands. While I was underneath it last night I spotted an oil leak from the timing cover so it looks like at least one cam seal might be in its future. There's also some rust around some of the studs where the exhaust heat shields attach so I may need to get in there with a grinder and some rust converter. One of these days I may make some progress on the R...

Finally got around to dropping the subframe and swapping the steering rack in my V50. I have it 90% back together, just need to drop by the parts store and get some CHF11S. Compared to doing a rack in an AWD P80 this hasn't been too hateful.

Been working on house projects so I haven't had a chance to do much with the car, but I did make a small fix this weekend. The driver's rear door has always been a little funky about latching/locking but this weekend I opened the door to put something in the back seat and it stopped latching completely. I happened to have a driver's rear door in my parts stash so I pulled the actuator/latch out and swapped it. Now it closes reliably. First time I've had one fail in a P80.

Speaking of my parts stash I tracked down some good OEM front axles and I have a good 2000 angle gear on hand. I plan to buy some control arms, a passenger side engine mount, and some new pads/rotors and swap all the questionable stuff in the front end in one go. I really want to have this car on the road before it gets cold again.

Long time no update. I haven't ever been happy with the driver's fender that I used on this car. I salvaged it from my old XC and it wasn't the best panel to begin with - there were two big dents on the body line and it had been repainted, but I figured it could probably be PDR'd. The paintless part went out the window when I tried to remove the foam badge adhesive that was around the side marker hole. I think the badge was put on while the paint was still wet and the adhesive remover I used messed up the paint underneath the foam residue. The damage was too big to cover up so I started keeping an eye out for a better fender. Last weekend I found out my friend Stu/scandalo is parting his S70 so I got the driver's fender and side skirt from it and swapped them on last night. The existing side skirt was missing the front inch or so (who knows why) and there was no place to attach the mudflap and fender liner. With a good fender and side skirt I can put it all back together correctly. Just gotta order some rivets and clips.

Stu's car was really awesome and it was one of the builds that got me excited about FWD Volvos so I'm glad a little bit of it can live on with this.

I had the same thing happen years ago when removing the badge to install side markers. I scrapped the idea and kept the badges.

I pulled the car out to take this pic and when I pulled it back in the garage I noticed a really strong fuel smell. I looked underneath and the bottom of the tank was dripping fuel. I got in there to take a look as well as I could and it looks like the leak is coming from the line that feeds the fuel filter - the leak is somewhere above the subframe that I can't see but I can see fuel dripping off that line. I'm having trouble tracking it down in the parts diagrams but it might be part 9445508. Regardless it seems like all those lines are NLA so I don't know if I have any options.

I would just post up a wanted ad on here and/or facebook. See if you can find someone willing to pull a set of fuel lines for you. That's what I do whenever I need a NLA part that's going to be miserable to pull at the JY. Every time I've done that I've had someone offer me what I needed at a price I was thrilled to pay, and probably also a price they were thrilled to get lol. Win/win!

Just replace the leaking line with nylon hose.

100% replace the line with nylon hose. I was skeptical about this too, but it is the correct way and not that hard to do once you get the hang of how the lines/fittings get pressed together.

I did this somewhere around page 21 of my build thread here:

I trust it, I made a new fuel supply line for a 240 with it a long time ago and it was a PITA, frankly, but I wasn't working under optimal conditions at the time. Did you buy new fittings or reuse them from the existing lines? The documentation in your thread is awesome BTW.

I'm probably gonna sell this, a local Volvo guy wants to buy it for about what I have in it and I'm getting some (justified, arguably) spousal stink eye because of the fuel leak (which I can't guarantee a timely fix for) so I think it's time to bail. Thanks for watching me tinker indecisively for two years.

Oh no, don't quit yet. If you don't have time, bring it to an Indy to fix the fuel leak. I guarantee you will miss and regret selling it. Unless you have found a different car you've been lusting for to replace it.

We'll see, I'll probably fix it if this deal falls through but I'm at a point where if I can get my money back out of it without lifting another finger to do repairs I'm not gonna say no.

I didn't expect this to land in my driveway while I still had the V70R but there has a different car I've been lusting after and I was able to make a deal on it this weekend. 1984 245 turbo, 105K on the odo, WV car and no rust anywhere. Hasn't run in a while but I haven't ever seen one with a body this clean, much less in OH. Now I have 4 generations of Volvo wagon in one place.

Sold this and my S70 to the guy who was interested yesterday, I'm sorry to see them go but he's very excited about them and I'm sure I'll see this car again once it's done.

Are you gonna do a thread on the 240? I'd look forward to seeing your progress on it!

I started a thread on Turbobricks, you might need to register to view it. I could start one here but the RWD forums are pretty barren.
