Don't deny that guest the choice. It might be the ride that does it.
79F and sunny Friday. No worries there!

Edit: I'm the one who got you into this, somewhat (the R). Am I not a good influence? Listen to the voice of reason!

I'll think about it. No one has ever been in the backseat before and only me and one other person have been in the passenger seat. Lots of coworkers want to see it so I might bring it but if I get anxious I can always take Springfield to lunch. Fridays are nice, traffic is lighter and the parking deck is never full so I can guarantee a premium spot wedged between a wall and Springfield.

Yes, this R is your fault and Nurse Ratchet's. At first Nurse Ratchet was like, "No brian, you don't need another wagon".. then I told him it was an R and he was like, "do it!". Then I messaged you looking for someone to talk me off the ledge and you were like, "You need an R in your life"

Lots of entertainment today, between PMs and this thread!
Do what YOU want to. Make yourself happy and comfortable.
I can hand you a beer, but doesn't mean you need to drink it! I can certainly be convincing, though...

      Lol true.

Then on a serious note here as well: There is a small bit of buyer's remorse on this R and the reason for it is because it is in such good condition I'm trying to juggle between enjoying it but keeping it in its condition or close to it. So yea, there's part of me that says.. maybe I would have had more enjoyment out of something a little worse. Whatever the case may be I have bought this one. I intend to drive it and enjoy it and I will do my best to make it stay nice. I don't know what other VRs are out there but given the condition and mileage on this one it could be the best condition VR in the states, not sure I want to know if it is because then it would scare me even more lol.

I hope to get some amazing photos of this R in the mountains later this fall

I need to borrow the R. Supply run to Depot. Potting soil. Concrete, a few fence posts, and composted chicken manure. Oh. And orange paint.

There is an atacama car near me that I may go take a look at this weekend. Seats don't look half bad for a car with 136k miles but the $6k they're asking is a lot to spend for seats, lol.

This is exactly what happened when I purchased an extremely rare optioned low low low mileage E46 M3. Every time i put miles on it I felt bad about it. Ended up selling the car to a M collector

Yea I'm not entirely equipped to be a collector. If it was my intention to preserve this then I would probably ship it off to a company here in town that stores rare and collectible cars.

I've done pretty well keeping my current fleet nice on the inside. The hard part is the body. It's hard to do on the XCs because they go out into the Wild West parking lots. I've already told myself this car is only coming out for pleasure. It won't be seen just parked at the mall or grocery store lol.

      Chipping in from the uk.

Nice R you got there, i understand your "will i wont i use the R" predicament. Recently bought a one owner, full history, all original R brochures, unopened R key ring which volvo gave with the car, fully stock magic blue with nordkap leather on 18" graphite pegs and manual and now on 33,000 miles.
Put 2,000 miles on in the last year. Enjoy taking it out, always puts a smile on my face, but then you get home and realise more miles have been added and the inside needs a clean, but it was a blast...

One final thing, the owner of my independant volvo garage purchased his R new in 2003, flash green atacama in manual and fully loaded, always garaged and only on 12,000 miles. Infact it did 4,000 of those over 10 years. The car is imaculate...rubber mats on atacama mats
All the best with your lucky find.

I'm not afraid to leave places if there is nowhere I deem acceptable to park when I'm in my T-5R.......or park in known parking lots that are like a 30 minute walk from where I am going when I don't like the closer options LOL.

Trick is to find these spaces at work and come in early to grab them.

Tomorrow the R is coming to work for a few hours. Springfield's job will be to guard his exposed flank in the parking deck.

Yeah, I need to get my finances in order but I'd like to get a 850R/V70R so I can have a wagon again and be able to tow the Miata.

I see a pipe above that space. You sure it doesn't have a pinhole leak?

Just when I thought these basement spaces in my building were safe.

My coworker who bought a brand new Lexus last week parks next to me every day. He comes out yesterday and there's a HUGE scratch right down the side of his Lexus!!

The R is not coming here

I've had stuff leach out of concrete and drip on my car when parked near where I work. I think it was lime and the best way to remove it was vinegar IIRC. Granted, that's in CLE which is a lot rougher on parking structures than ATL.

You want a 850 then. FWD and easy to manual swap is best for towing.....unless you want to wait till the fwd '97 m56 V70Rs turn 25 and can be imported.

Sounds good, the big thing now is wether I save for a wagon or save for ITBs on the Miata.

I don't mean to hijack his thread, the deciding factor is whether the $1700 I save up will buy a wagon or ITBs

Que no los dos? Funny that you say that though, I met my last long-term boyfriend because of my '99 XC (caught him checking it out in the parking lot and walked up to him, realized he went to school with my older sister, etc) but I think the estate attraction might work better in reverse tbh; my 855 even in its current state has gotten me far more attention than the P80 XC and the P2 XCs combined (I think guys see "female driving an early XC = it belongs to her boyfriend = abort mission") but I have to also take into account that the P80 and P2 populous of the suburban Greater Boston area is relatively plentiful, so there's more camaraderie in those affections than "ooh nice car".
Miatas are impressive, just like McLarens and Maseratis etc etc but I don't really know if I'd ever go up to someone and talk to them if they had one. I'm relatively shy IRL and I'd feel somewhat threatened, or I'd be afraid that they think I'm looking for more than a conversation, if you know what I mean. Most of the people in these parts in particular who own a luxury vehicle like that are 50+ anyway, lmfao.

Whenever people come up to talk regardless of gender I presume it's because they are enthusiasts as well

I think I have an easier time talking to others about cars in a group setting, rather than one-on-one on the street. I don't want to speak for ALL women here, I'm reasonably outgoing but the time+place factor can hold some weight in striking up a conversation comfortably or coming off as fangirling.
At Swedish Car Day in Brookline two Sundays prior, I felt absolutely no anxiety walking up to people and carried on conversations with lots of people (as well as other car shows I've attended or waltzed through) but I think unless someone is driving a Volvo (implied fellowship) I find it somewhat intimidating to approach anyone regarding their car.
I think it's also slight anxiety that they may think "oh it's a girl she doesn't know anything about cars let's just humor her" -- The other day some dude was blown away that I knew what a naturally aspirated engine was??

I'll freely give compliments on cars when someone has something they clearly have taken pride to maintain. An older gentleman parked next to me in a pristine E30 BMW 325. Whether he was the original owner or not I couldn't tell, but the car looked pristine. I just told him "nice car" and nodded and he smiled and said thanks.

Idk if he gave a half a crap that his car was acknowledged or not. It was cool to me so I spoke on it. Conversely it would suit me if nobody ever noticed my Volvo. It's silver, and mid sized and hopefully is quite the sleeper.

I've done that before. If I know a car is old but well cared for I say something too. If I see really nice Volvos I tend to park next to them then get out and take photos..

I found the only other Volvo in a parking lot yesterday (an early XC90 T6) and parked behind it so my PR could have a friend in the lot. The older gentleman owner came out and kind of gave me a look, so I told him nice XC (while standing next to mine). I'm not sure he got the connection. lol

      What he heard, "nice ecstasy"

So on the recommendation of jp I ordered some cocomat samples for Raleigh, the R. I don't think any of them look good.

But I think I found some new mats for Wichita
