The manual's a bit confusing and I was wondering what other people with the 4-cyl engine are doing.

It says:

SAE 5W-30 will provide good fuel economy and engine protection.

Extreme engine operation
SAE 0W-30 oil meeting ACEA A5/B5 require- ments is recommended for extreme driving con- ditions.

CAUTION
4-cylinder engines only: Volvo oil VCC RBS0-2AE/SAE 0W20 is recommended for extreme driving conditions.
This oil must never be used in 5- or 6-cylinder engines.

My understanding is that the 0W20 oil was hard to find in the US though there are now oils that meet the specs.

I live in the Northeast (US) and won't be tracking this car. Which oil should I be using?

The 0W20 oil seems so thin...
