Beep only US, not in EU I think... strange. Love the beep beep. , like in the movies. But without blowing up ofcourse

Likely just the sensor. Had that on my old V40 w/same symptoms.

On ours, mechanic adjusted the latch and that quieted the sensor. Sorry I don’t know how he did it, but was a cheap fix.

Sometimes it is actually unlatched but most of the times it is latched. You should be able to tell if the hood isn't fully closed.

Got a call from my wife today. She said the blower motor made a loud noise and sounded like it shattered... no AC...

$1750 (with a coupon) to get it done at the dealer. None of the local independents could see it before August. Great experience at Danvers Volvo Village
I think it was $1900 without the coupon
Thankfully it just needed ANOTHER blower motor.

Wow, that’s absolutely nuts. Hard to do without air at this time of year though.

yeah, dealer was the only one who could pencil me in. My wife has some mobility issues so getting in and out of my Silverado was not good for her.

They found that the DIM had some broken tabs (the gauge cluster, from my understanding) so they glued tabs back onto it.

glad to have working air conditioning that's quieter than ever.

Already have the tool required laying here and waiting, just trying to build up the courage to order the fan and resistor (MOSFET nowadays) :P
Probably going to endure the winter again with it squeaking though, as I don't have a good place to put in the day or so required to do the swap.

That squeaking is hell for me. Cant wait to change it. Almost at full blast it stops but how terrible is that. Turning it of 100% means no AC. Should have done it sooner.

-Resistor? Hope it comes with my order.

Pretty sure it doesn't, but it's also not really required to change normally. But figured when I've already torn down half the interior to get there, I could change it to not have to do it again later.

Bought the blower motor new for €100 and VOLVO will replace it for €170... I could have found a cheaper garage but the feeling VOLVO is doing the repair gives me an old fashioned good feeling. €270 total...

Squeaky blower motor. Replace or something else?

Anyway, 2 hours and 10 minutes they said to change. Well guess what, terrible job and they never changed one, I am the first. Guess they will change the booktime on this blower motor after today. Lol. Realy have the feeling I am getting my money worth out of this one. Poor mechanic, sweating like a pig. Great guys here, know them very well.

They have been working on it for 3 hours now and still didnt get the old one out. What a mess. Cant wait longer, taking a taxi home. I am guessing 7 or 8 hours labor. Able to snap a pic. To be continued...

What a bastard to change! DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME

2.1 HOURS @ €88/H......no way VOLVO, this time you lost.

They really aren't that bad once you've done one. I can do them in about 45 minutes now.

First time must be the hardest time. Anyway. Its installed now, irritating noise is gone. What a relief. Mechanic told me he needed 5 hours. €225 tax incl. (2.1H)
      The old one: (BEHR)

Thinking about what to do with the old one.

XC70 Blower will not come out

      Hi,
I'm currently in the middle of this job on an 2008 xc70. Everything was fine until I got to the blower. I can't get it to budge. I kept bending and eventually breaking two of the pins of the tool. I then cut the cage off so I could grasp the motor. The housing will not move. I'm at a loss with a carpet full of parts and a neighbor wondering when I'm getting my car out of his garage. Any ideas would be most appreciated.
      Thank you.

Do you have the release tab pushed in? Are you sure there isn't a screw instead of the tab?

I broke the tab off and there is no screw

Thanks for responding. I broke the release tab off and there is no screw. I should note I bought one of the after market removers and when the pins bent and then eventually broke from bending them back in place I saw they were barely tapped into the metal. I see there are other removers where the pins extend through the middle plate up to the handle and wonder if I should bite the bullet and upgrade. Nonetheless, I assumed what I bought would do the job of torquing a plastic housing. My only other fear is that like one of the previous posters suggested when the motor wouldn't actually snap back in they glued it. I bought the car with only 35K so I assume the blower I'm replacing is the original.

Just to be sure on the tab. I assume you mean pushed down, not in? The part I broke off was on the top of the housing and looked like it hooked to a tab that would be pushed down.

If you broke the climate box, you'll need to get a screw in there to hold the new blower in place. It takes a good amount of force to turn the blower to get it out. Sounds like the aftermarket tool wasn't up to it.

I was careful to only snap off the part attached to the blower so I think the box is still intact. If you can think of nothing else I will buy the better tool and see if it turns. I keep thinking if I can find something to get purchase on the motor (since the cage is gone) that it would turn but the space is so limited.
      Thanks again.

There really isn't anything else to it. Install the tool, release the tab, twist.

Squeaky blower motor. Replace or something else?

      Tech‘s info is bang on.
Just to be clear though: can you confirm that you have removed the DIM and reached in to depress or break the tab that can only be reached through DIM opening? Tech also mentions a screw. This screw is specifically mentioned in VIDA as an optional fastening mechanism. I would not be surprised if maybe the 2008’s has the screw installed as a matter of course. Put your iPhone in the dim opening and take a pic of the fan housing to double check that there is no screw installed. You can see where the screw should go in on the replacement fan. It is meant to be used if tab is broken.

Also Try getting one person to turn fan from inside DIM opening and second person using tool.

Well, I bought the better tool (the one where the pins extend all the way up to the handle) and it worked. However, I just reassembled and I just reconnected the battery and a single press of the ignition brings on my interior lights and dash but the moment I try to start everything goes to dark with a click and I get nothing. I disconnected and then reconnected the battery and the same thing happened. Any ideas from here?

      Thank you.

Another twist. In case it was my battery I borrowed an older trickle charger from a neighbor and when I hooked up the negative clamp it sparked pretty good and then the charger cables started smoking and melting. I got them off quickly but I assume this mishap is related to my problem? I know the cables were on the correct polarity.

      Thank you.
