XC90 V8 - Tire sizes for stock 18" Atlantis wheels

The stock tire size on the car is 235/60R18. A popular option is 255/55R18. This has been discussed at length on the forum and I understand the wider tire works ok on the stock 7" wide wheel, although this is at the narrow end of the range for a 255 width tire. I'm ready for tires within the next few months and am trying to decide on whether to go with 255. I'm having trouble finding pictures of what this looks like on the stock wheel. Although I think this is a better size for the XC90, my concern is whether this will look silly and balloony given the narrow 7" wheel. Anyone have any pics to share or opinions?

It's on a 19" which I believe is 8.5, but this is how wide a 255 will look on the 90

All 17's and 18's were 7" from Volvo with ET49 so any 255/60r17 or 255/55r17 would show you the same "bulge" I ran 255/60r17's on my last one and they didn't balloon or wear center first. I think 19s went up to ET50 and 20's were ET55

Yeah, that tire size looks good on the XC90. I'm trying to get a pic of that size on the 7" wheel.

Not “balloony” at all and matches the R-Design profile - as oneofakind mentioned the R-Design 19 and 20 wheels are a bit wider but it’s within range - it depends on the tire. I have General Grabber AT2 on 18” at 255/55x18 and look great - matching the stock look for our R-Design - very functional and have been an unstoppable combination for our XC90.

I went with 255/55-18 tires on the 18x7" Atlantis wheel. The look and the ride is great. I'm happy I went with it. If felt that the 235 width looked a bit under-tired on the XC90 by mondern standards. I put on Michelin Premier LTX tires. It was hard picturing this ahead of time even with the pictures posted above in this thread. I'm posting some more pictures here as future reference for others.

Nice choice of tires. Please do post back on how the tires hold up. Would like to know treadware of that tire on our heavy xc90s

I did the same except Camulus rims:
      https://forums.swedespeed.com/showthr...k-18-quot-rims

Just got back from inspection and it's about time for replacements. So as far as longer life with the wider tread - didn't work for me

Posting a follow-up on these tires. The tires currently have 27196 miles on them and show 4/32" tread remaining. I expect replacement somewhere between 35-40k on the tires. This is far short of the 60k tread wear warranty, but pretty good for a tire hungry XC90.

Wet performance has been excellent throughout the tire life. In torrential rains this past weekend I felt no hint of hydroplaning or slickness even though I saw several other cars wrecked in the median. Handing performance is about what you'd expect for a touring tire. They have sufficient cornering grip for what anyone is likely to do in an XC90. I tend to like more handing response and crispness, but that's not really the mission of these tires. I may consider the Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 or something else next time, but tbd.

Has any of you adjusted the camber on the front or rear of the car and if so how?
