Looks pretty ok to me, though the cracks in the rubber might be a sign it's drying out.

The larger "cracks" along the edges is just from manufacturing though, the thick rubber is what matters.

Thanks Steffe. It scared me looking at it. The car doesn’t vibrate whatsoever. I will investigate the issue a bit more. May install the IPD one when time comes...

Yeah, been looking at that too, but it's too "in your face" to go through the MOT equivalent we have over here probably :/ Some technicians are really picky, even though it really does nothing to affect safety :P

Finally figured out why my parking sensors weren't working. I think at some point a rodent gnawed through one of the wires. Broke out the old soldering iron and electrical tape and we're back in business. That was after replacing a couple of sensors - they cost $6 each.

Also changed the oil for the first time with this car. Under engine cover was missing half it's screws - good thing I have an ample inventory, lol.

What sensors are you finding for $6? I have a front bumper park assist sensor out on my 2011 S60 and OE sensors seem to be in the $60-$90 range. There seem to be generic alternatives for considerably less but I am not sure if they are plug n play and fully compatible.

I got them from a seller on Ebay - a Chinese knock-off part. Search around as there are several part numbers that cross match and should work for your application but of course check your wiring first.

What's the best way to de-chrome the window trim? Plastidip?

This is probably not the place to ask, but does anyone know if that chrome cross piece is held on with clips or just tape? If the latter, I may start pulling, but if the former, maybe plastic-dip is a better route.

      97% tape, 3% clips ;p

From what I've heard though, you can cut the clip part(s) off and just use the tape.

Hi guys, this question keeps coming back year after year. I completely understand. Was in most discussions but basically it is a pain to replace them with black strips, not an easy job at all and plastidipping them is also not fun to do and most likely will become a mess. Chrome means chrome imho -accept the chrome. It’s realy not that bad.

No idea but it is 3M, their stuff is usually among the best so I can see it lasting for at least a few years.

It's all personal preference anyway. When I was searching for our car, the black window trim was a prerequisite; I'm not a chrome guy

      NEITHER AM I!

I was hoping the strip was just tape so I could leave it off. I guess that's not gonna happen though. It also seems like holes in the tailgate for clips just beg for rust since the rear wiper constantly pushes water and salt down into that strip.

Volvo has many wonderful design touches in their cars, but I'd love to meet the person responsible for adding the chrome strip on the tailgate and the different sized chrome in the taillights at a different level. It hurts my ocd to know it's back there.

Lol. I have the tape, tyvm. I still totally prefer the earlier look, including the lights, but I think swapping just one thing would look weird. I'd have to swap everything. Hey, maybe I should just get an '09! Oh wait....

Road trip! Hatch swap! LOL... you're right tho, the strip bugs me personally. If I do end up doing the facelift taillights, it will be sans strip. And I will figure out a way to black out the chrome on the lights

I'm doing the head job. New valve guides and rings due to a loss of compression.
Plus, new gaskets, seals, chain, tensioner, freewheel pulley, water pump, thermostat, coolant pipes, brake lines, etc etc etc

What did you do with your XC70/V70 (2008+) today?

About this strip; When I facelifted to MY14+ I think I just installed the new one without taking off the old one. There was none. Never discovered any holes ofcourse...

I strongly recommend upgrading to those LED MY14+ lights including the rougher looking skidplate, a bar either chrome or black and the eyebrow reflectors.

Different sized chrome in the taillights at a different level? Holes in the tailgate? From what MY they put holes in them. I am a bit lost here...

Different level? The chrome strip meets the level of the bottom of the reverse lights. Perfect level. Same height. Silver white meets silver. Or chrome if you like. Just a matter of looking.

      Plastic/glass fiber generally doesn't rust ;p
Could be components inside that might be taking damage though, doesn't seem that common however, more common that the wiring breaks in the pass-through between body and hatch.

Nah, they don't even have a strip. Not sure why they even have that clip/those clips. Might have been added to make it easier to install level.

Could be components inside that might be taking damage though, doesn't seem that common however, more common that the wiring breaks in the pass-through between body and hatch.
Is the hatch fiberglass?!? I guess I've never actually checked....

I assumed it was steel or aluminum (and yeah, I realize aluminum doesn't rust, but take a look at a 740/940 in the USA rust belt- they still have problems).
