Question re: upgrading to 2014+ shifter and paddles

Here's this great thread where Pietila shows an install.

      https://forums.swedespeed.com/showthr...=1#post6301073

My question is what is the cutoff year for the upgrade parts? IE., I have a MY11 and would like to use the wheel+paddles, GSM and gear shift assembly from a 2016. Is that possible? I seem to recall something about a significant change in how the trans is controlled but I forget the MY for that. Do I need to get something from MY2014?

I ordered a shifter assembly off of eBay. Once I get it I'll see if my Heicco knob can be attached. If so I will do the swap.
      We shall see.

You can take it for 2014-2016. You might want to take the gear speed module (GSM) from such a car where there was a paddle shift. For example, a wreck car. Then the gear speed module is ready for programming.

      Ok, great. Excellent. Thanks.

Now I just need to troll eBay and a few other sites to get all the stuff! :-)

Speaking of trolling sites, I talked to someone from LKQOnline.com yesterday to ask how come I see a certain part in the pictures of the donor car but when I search for it it doesn't come up?
She said they take these pics when the car first comes in then they take all the parts out. So even if you see the part you want it doesn't mean they still have it.

Yeah, I haven't found anything on their site (for the paddle shifter upgrade) the last couple of days. :-(

If your car is newer than +2014, this mod does not have to be done. There are wires ready from SWM (Steering Wheel module) to GSM (Gear speed module)

You can check it if your GSM comes with all 6 wires.
      1. BU-GY
      2. BN-VT
      3. GN-OG
      4. GY paddle shift
      5. GN-VT paddles shift

      6. BK-GN

And your SWM will leave all 10 wires.

      1. GY paddle shift
      2. BK
      3. Canbus -
      4. Canbus +
      5. GN-VT paddle shift
      6. GN-OG
      7. GN-BK
      8. GN-WH
      9. BU (This may not be the case if there is no heated steering wheel)
      10. BU-WH

+2014 SWM is different and it's all done.

But for the 2010-2013 cars this gets this modification. Remember to investigate your own car's connections, there may be differences. This is my 2011 S60 T6 AWD!

A few confused images if you could help understand how this works.

This is GSM (Gear Speed Module)

If someone does this modification, then they could do better instructions. I do not have pictures of all phases. My language skills are bad.

@Pietila, your instructions are really well written and explained. Unfortunately, I'm way too scared to do this mod as it'll end up with the car burning up or something due to my lack of handiness.

It sounds like a 2014-2018 non-paddle car can just add a steering wheel with paddles, no other changes?
