Remove the intake pipe that connects to the compressor housing of the turbo and check if the compressor housing is oily (inside and out). From your first photo it looks like it might actually be pretty clean. Also reach in and tug on the compressor wheel in radial and axial directions and check for movement

I pulled it off a car that had a angle flange exhaust side. I used it for my 19t swap. I have a straight flange I can put on it though. The only difference in a 15g and a 16t is, 15g is flatback and the 16t is a superback turbo. Same side compressor wheel, but the superback wheel design is more efficient. I made some decent power with my 16t I had on my car. You ll always want more lol. As for injectors, the oranges are fine. If you got a tune then you could upgrade to blues.

Is the 16T in good condition or would I have to rebuild it? And how much would you like for it? PM me!

Also what’s the consensus on boost control valves while we’re on the subject of turbos? I heard the IPD is not worth it... I only really want to make original HP and not much more. Does anyone still sell OEM tcv’s?

If you want to buy something from IPD, get their 25mm rear sway bar

I’ll probably only buy an exhaust and subframe bushings from them.

First order of business is to deal with the lifter tick. Any suggestions to what cleaner / conditioner I should use after I drain the old oil / reseal the oil pan? Or should I just skip a cleaner all together?

Are you talking about the poly subframe bushing inserts? If so, don't bother. I installed them on my S70 and the steering felt tight for the first drive I took it out on then after that I could feel no difference at all

Here's a turbo air intake cover for you

Also looking into a set of volans, found three for sale in Chicago for $200 and one on eBay for $200, so $400 total for a set with no tires. Is that a good price?

DO NOT get the IPD subframe bushing inserts!!!!!!!!!

$400 for a set of Volans isn't a great buy but it's not terrible if they are in decent shape. If they need a refinish to be usable then that's a bit much. Always assume that whatever tires you get with the wheels when you buy them are junk. If this car doesn't turn you into a tire nerd like the rest of us, then either you haven't gotten it running right or you're not driving it hard enough to justify owning it. Your NA is being more forgiving about being on junk tires because it doesn't have the power to make it obvious how bad they are. This car does.

The guy selling the Volans has had them for a sale for a while and has slowly lowered the asking price. He would probably take less for an actual cash offer. (His ad is a little confusing. Says $190.00 in subject, but $250.00 in body. Who knows?) I also still have an extra matching one. If you're interested, I'll sell it to you for $100.00 picked up in Chicago. PM me if you're interested.

      SO quick update:

I found the source of my mystery oil leak... drumroll please... it was the distributor cam seal! Sven wins for guessing it. I placed an order to FCP euro with many goodies on the way. Fixed the tailgate panel and got that extra key cut as well.

Checked the turbo, it's building boost and holding it, however there is a tad of lateral play, so I'll add it to my list.

The muffler has a large hole I wasn't able to see, so the exhaust smells lovely.

a hole in the exhaust isn't going to change the smell of the exhaust; your car is not running right and/or the cat is toast

Well it doesn’t have a cat because the previous owner cut it out, so that fixes that.

Since you've found the oil leak, do yourself a big favor (and all of us viewing your pics), thoroughly clean your engine bay! LOL. All that old oil and grime is making me cringe.

Wow that seal is so far gone Mine wasn't leaking nearly as bad but it fouled the distributor enough to make the car stall out and not start up (on Christmas of all days) until I replaced the cap and rotor and PCV

      Update time friends:

I attempted to pull the oil pan but ran out of time to get it off on friday, so I ended up putting it all back together with a new magnetic drain plug, 10W-30 high mileage, and a mann filter. Of course, the lifter tick is still there, and I think this may be the culprit:

Blixt begins part 4 by Charles Conto, on Flickr

I have no idea if that is near the pickup, but I'm for sure going to need to find a pan or pull one from the junkyard.

So, I didn't get far on what I intended to do, but I thought I'd wash it for the first time since owning it. My new detailing gig has taught me a lot about properly washing cars. It actually doesn't look half bad from 10 feet away.

I'm currently on the hunt for a polar white headlight trim for the drivers side, if you have one let me know!

What is in your photo that you say might be the culprit for the lifter tick? If you are thinking that's a dent, it's not, it's by design.

Really? I thought that was a dent that was not supposed to be there? So I don’t need a new pan after all?

No, not at all! It's totally fine, the pan is cast with that indentation

even if it was a dent that wouldn't cause a lifter tick

So because I don't have too much time to do anything mechanical to blixt this weekend, I'll be clay baring the paint to try to get it looking as nice as possible for the time being. Also have a new center console coming with a parking brake handle. Also discovered why the fan was hardwired at the relay for some reason, it seems as though the engine temp sensor is bad and not telling the fan relay to engage, because when I jumped both the old relay and a JY relay I knew worked, the fan came to life at speed 2. Probably gonna replace the thermostat as well just to be safe, but I have no idea what temperature thermostat to get. Any recommendations? Thanks guys!

Unfortunately no dice (haha), since I don't have access to VIDA. Can VOL-FCR do this?

you don't need a DiCE to look up the part numbers.......VIDA doesn't do anything when you hook it up to a m4.x car anyway.

After further investigation I've determined that it's a 90 degree thermostat. Also, finally got it registered, and clay baring the whole car today. The rear hatch has cleaned up really well so far! Installed a not broken airbag bracket as well so we're all back to stock as far as the intake system goes!

      UPDATE TIME!!!!!!

It's been a little bit since I've been able to devote some quality time to my wagon, but I decided I wasn't gonna take it any more while saving up for an exhaust and decided to work on the odometer and reading the actual mileage to fix it.

Using an OBD Link LX (the bluetooth-only green one), an old Samsung Galaxy S4, and a bluetooth terminal app, I was able to talk to the COMBI and get the actual mileage, which is DRUMROLL PLEASE....... 216,861 miles! Not too shabby, I was hoping it would be somewhere in the 180,000 range but knowing that it's over 200,000 only makes it more legit in my opinion.

I disassembled the cluster at my house, changed the digits after removing them one by one, replaced all lighting, and then put it back in only to find it still didn't count forward... I lubed everything with silicone grease as I was putting it together, was this a bad move? Plus the mounts that connect the cluster to the dash at the top where those two clips are have both broken. Any advice for how to fix this? Thanks!

I think Jared explained what he did when he corrected the mileage on his T5-R, search his thread?

Okay so Jared seems to have used a drill press running in reverse to get it to the correct mileage. I got the cluster back out of the car and I'm gonna take all the lube off of the gears that I had previously put on, maybe this will fix it.

Did some work last night, door cups finally came in from iPD on backorder, and figured I would show support for them since I've bought so much of their stuff recently.

I don't think the lube is your problem.
