I deviate from this when I am in city traffic and these is a possibility of bicycles exceeding rate of automobile traffic flow. Then I aim my side mirrors in so that the side of the car is at the edge of my field of view. I don't like doing that but gotta be able to sight down the lanes backwards for lane splitting bikes. Center mirror usually would be covering that area for me but, usually being blocked by other cars behind me, is useless for that. The ECE driver's mirror helps a lot to minimize blind spot on the driver's side. My friend who bought my white 850R lives in the city and I am going to loan him a ECE P80 RHD driver's mirror that I randomly have in stock for further testing in city traffic.
