2000 V70 AWD engine swap information

      HELLO Volvo folk

Inherited 2000 V70 AWD B5244T VIN 56 ME7 controller from brother who passed suddenly. He loved it , I love it.

It needs replacement engine after I got sloppy, heated it up, popped a head gasket. 120K miles only.

Never touched a volvo so I 'm clueless, learning fast as I can. I'm a mercedes guy.

I understand: 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 5 cylineder modular engines all bolt right in. Modular engine.

this one has CVVT exhaust only
some have cvvt both exhaust and intake like B5254T2 I have a shot at one of those locally, lo miles, reasonable $

That seller says I can simply remove intake CVVT solenoid, use blocking plate, then simply use the ME7 engine controler.

I've heard there are some well informed folks here.

This is frustrating .... with mercedes you do not need to pay $7500 a year for full technical information.

Can y'all advise on this question.

      Thanks in advance,

      John
      Los Altos, CA

Get a Dice/Vida setup it'll cost about $125. This will give you parts diagrams, repair information ect as well as vehicle diagnostics through 2014.

You can use any 2.3, 2.4 turbo or 2.5 turbo. If the donor engine has intake VVT just leave the solenoid on don't touch anything its its own blocking plate.

Since you have a 2000 you will need to retain the turbo, water pipe and etm from the car and put them on any donor motor unless its a 00-01. 03+ will require trimming the corner of the etm to clear the pcv baffle box.

Mr. SB. thank you, you sound solid

There are some Volvo around with motors that still have life in them, one locally with 100hp more and supposedly good compression. (B5254T4)

Mine has Bosch ME7 controller. Studying that unit brochure it appears to have 5 or 6 sensors on the motor. My concern is the sensors on a newer (or older) motor using a different controller would not cross over and interact with this ECU. If I am patient I may be able to resurrect this super nice car I got from my estranged, deceased super good natured brother. Well, kinda super ....

That B5254T2 is only 205 hp so it's not a great upgrade.

I've done a 99 me7 engine swap his last spring and a year prior a 00 me7 awd swap/engine upgrade. Very familiar with this and have learned about all yhe hiccups.

Just use all the sensor that came on the car. The RN engines (99-07/09 s60s) are modular so everything bolts on with the exception of possibly having to tap one hole for a harness loop.

Feel free to ask any questions. I'd just prefer large quantities at once not back and forth excessively for a month.

      Thanks again Mr. SB,
Once I make the decision to "invest" the $ and effort due to it being a reaonable thing to do I'll aquire an engine and put the swap into the hands of a Volvo specific shop. At my age 69 and without a lift I will not take it on. I could nearly do it blindfolded on mid 80s Mercedes w123 , I know every nut n bolt.

Volvo is a different animal. If the sensors on a later 5cyl modular engine talk to the ME7 OK that opens the possibilities of the sources of used engines.

      Thx
      Rocket

      Thx again

Use the sensors off the current engine only. They'll bolt on to anything RN

about a year ago I asked and got great info on the engine my 2000 V70 AWD needs.

Now: I found a 2004 C70 engine the car got side swiped real bad, but the engine is 88K miles (he says). Bingo. Perfect to give my 2000
vV70 intense very pretty signal red AWD wagon another life.

again thanks to scotishBrick for his very precise and to the point information before. Im strict mid 80s mercedes turbo diesel so way out in the woods with Volvo but very good with tools generally.

My inquiry for today, what would one of you wise old owls to to verify the truth in a low miles engine claim, there is the obvious compression check. The engine is still in the car and can be started and run . The sideswipe was at the front of the drivers door, took the left front wheel right off, apparently.

Anything 150 psi plus is healthy. Can also turn over by hand and if ever cylinder has the same resistance then it’s probably good.

      Would XC90 twin turbo B5354T2
      from 2003–2012 Volvo XC90 badged as XC90 2.5T AWD
fit under the hood bolt up to

      2000 V70 XC AWD.

Still looking looking for a motor for this pretty signal red V70

      Thanks
