All done! OWS calibration and SRS faults cleared via VIDA. No other faults.

About 3 hours to do the second seat. My daughter stripped the old one while I skinned the new one. Nice to have extra hands stretching the leather while I crimp the hog ring. Gave it a good scrubbing with leather cleaner and an upholstery brush. The grain is clean now.

I'll post a detailed write up at some point.

Bought 50 disposable seat covers to help keep it nice.

Need a 500-600 mile road trip to really check them out.

The hard part is done! Just need to drop in the new carpet and put the seats back in. My daughter did most of the driver's side.

Carpet in! Just need to drop the seats back in and put the console back together. The driver's carpet section came out of an 06 S60 with 49k miles on it from CA. Much nicer than anything I could find in my area.

I don't know which was worse, the doors or the floor. My back would vote for the floor! I'll tackle the cargo area some other time.

Geesh. I've only done the one door with your method so far and it took me hours!

I think that's the last of it! Still have one box plus two sheets left. So, just short of three boxes to do it. I'd say it's a 90% job. I'm not anal about covering every square inch. I might do the inside of the tailgate, if I ever need to open it up.

There's definitely a reduction in the low frequency road noise.

      Exocet's 2007 V70 2.5T Build Thread

Apologies if this was covered earlier but what product did you use and how much does it cost - for the sound-proofing, that is.

Noico 80mil, $65 per 36 sq ft box at Amazon. I used almost 3 boxes for the doors and floor.

just use an app like Decibel X - do it with current set-up and a few of us can do ours with factory - then you can compare...sort of. in this very scientific test we just have to agree where we will place our phone and what direction th bottom will point in. I vote for leaning elbow on centre console with phone held straight upwards. We can do a rev test where each of us revs to 4000 x4 and then a test at 65mph steady for 10s. Do you have factory exhaust, Exocet?

Yes, I have the stock exhaust. But, many variables such as tires and road surface come into play.

That is true which is why you would need a minimum sample size of 10 + other volunteers to average other variables out nicely.

Dashed out at lunch for kicks - I'm at 70.0Db at steady 65mph with climate control off, radio off and sunroof closed. When I rev'd from idle to 4200-ish i went from 51.4Db to 68.4Db. Curious to find out how that measures up, Exocet. I also floored in from take-off and got to 78Db.

All tests were run while resting elbow on center console and holding phone upright.

      Microphone facing back?
I had my phone facing the front of the car and somewhat angled towards me so I guess that means mic facing down (into palm).

All tests were run while resting elbow on center console and holding phone upright.
Used the Decibel-X app with my phone mic (Galaxy S8). 63 dB at idle, 68 dB at 4500 RPM. With car off, 35 dB.

One correction on my exhaust. I have the stock exhaust, except the resonator has been removed.

My measurements with a calibrated mic and the Audio Tool app are slightly higher.

      Not sure this means anything.

Gently cleaning the reflector bowls, and the chrome comes off on one of the high beams. Crap! So much for getting the projector headlights put together today. I think I'm going to grab some S60 lights from the JY. They already have black accents. That way I don't have to mess around the chrome. It is a royal PITA to get the lens off. Stupid Permaseal! But, that's just heat and prying. Then, cleaning the sealer residue out of the channels.

Pulled the P3 front seat belt latches today. Same sub-connector in the main connector as the P2. The P3 passenger side has an additional sensor on it. Maybe some sort of strain gauge? P2 doesn't have it. It plugs into the PSM.

Yes, they fit. Just remember to put threadlock on the bolt.

I did this dB test before/after on my own xc70 years back with deadening on the floor and extra deadening in the front wheel wells behind the fender liner and saw about a 5 db drop. A 2-5 drop is what I've observed in about everything I've tried it on.

I used an app and no special mic, I went purely with the idea that sound volume, while it might not be accurately measured because of my equipment, the drop should be "approximately measured" since I replicated the same tests with no changes in equipment.

I speculate that if we had better equipment to measure we would find that the sound waves in the cabin are less "noisy," not in volume so much as scattered lots and lots of different frequencies. With the deadening what comes into the cabin is a "cleaner frequency" and therefore easier to mentally block out.
