      iPad holder project

Got the parts in.....finally, for the non-powered iPad holders for the kids.

For whatever reason the US warehouses didn't stock the non-powered headrest bases, and it took awhile of waiting and persuasion to get them to bring them over. I didn't want the powered version with the USB ports, as it adds a somewhat ridiculous amount of wiring and panel removal, when there are USB ports and a 120/240 volt outlet on the back of the center console in our Ocean Race.

And it's done. It was pretty easy, though releasing the existing headrests from the seats took a little work since the retaining clips are hard to get to with a screwdriver.

But all said and done, I'm happy with it, and hopefully the kids will enjoy it.

Yeah, the powered ones require a ridiculous amount of additional teardown and wiring...just to get a couple of USB ports. Doesn't seem worth it to me.

I agree, I pretty much ruled out the Volvo ones because of that. Hopefully I can find the non powered for the wife's xc40

Just finished mine tonight. Took some elbow grease, but cost was very low. Will do one more just in case.

My hesitation with those is that you've now introduced what is basically a rear facing spear. In the event of an accident the rear passenger could fold forward enough to impact that with their face.

The Volvo branded one only introduces vertical surfaces that can bend or break out of the way in an impact.
