New Volvo speed limit: 112 mph

Starting with its 2020 models, Volvo will be limiting the top speed of all its cars to 112 mph.

      I'm sure you're right.

      so sad....
I think that's about the timeframe in which Volvo has pledged that never again will anybody die in a Volvo accident, so I'm sure this is in aid of that. I don't think it's so sad. Take it to the track.

I hope they don't try to sneak a software speed update when you bring your car for any service, I'd be pretty upset!

I'm pretty sure that would be illegal. This change doesn't really affect anyone driving within a legal limit in the US.

I believe its just clever marketing from Volvo.

On the one hand the 112mph limit will appeal to the loonies who want it and that will win Volvo some brownie points.

On the other hand, the Polestar optimisation will probably remove the limit and that will keep everyone else happy.

Volvo wins both ways. One way makes them look safety conscious to the right people, the other way will make them a few extra pennies and keep the petrol heads happy.

Also, as said before, most people don't normally drive their cars that fast in the first place. Japan has had this limit for years, doesn't stop them making GT-R's!

Just a pity that Polestar won't make new models with ICE engine. A 360HP T6/T7 will still be very welcomed.

Yeah, looks like "Polestar 1" will be the only ICE-hosting Polestar vehicle, unless they get into PHEV trucks. But who will buy a Polestar 1 at $150k with 600 hp if there's a 180-km/hr limit built in? Perhaps Polestar won't be limited, although there's also a news story just out that the EU will be forcing auto makers to put in speed-limit software in all European cars -- so maybe Volvo knew of this and just is getting out in front of everybody else... I notice that other non-Volvo car forums are also lit up today about the Volvo-speed-limit news (one such forum thread has the title "Don't Track Your Next Volvo")..

It is software so Polestar can still easily sell unlimited version in America.

And Cyan Racing announced LYNKCO 03 race car with 528HP 2.0L turbo engine. LNYKCO plans to sell limited edition of this. If they bring it to America...

I am also super curious how 528HP is achieved. The triple turbo prototype is only 450HP.
