      Shaking hands with danger!

One of the spring/tube whatzits failed on my 142 trunk lid and Scandix seemed to have the best option for long term replacement.

You can get the gas spring and then add a separately sold clevis on one end.

There is a nifty twist, it's not compressed!

So I used my floor jack and one loop of my car's trailer hitch to compress it. Then several loops of mechanics wire to reduce its length by 1 1/2"

Probably not the safest way to have done this but I figured I wasn't likely to get mortally injured ;D

Anyway, it works wonderfully and I think I'll replace the other side when the budget allows.

Wow. That's a surprising development. I was planning on buying one of these myself -- good to know this ahead of time. Thanks for sharing. Glad you didn't kill yourself in the process.
