      Right.

This isn't that hard. Buy the plan from Steingold if you can (I wanted to), but if you live in CA as I do -- where it's no longer legal to purchase extended warranties from out-of-state -- I used a printed page from Steingold's website to get a price match from my local dealer when I took delivery here in CA (Thanks Steingold!) YMMV in terms of negotiation with your local dealership, but as @inteller says, once the VIP plan is in Volvo's system, it will be honored by your local US dealer. Beyond reading terms before I purchased my VIP plan, I verified with Volvo that even if I were to someday move back to Hawaii and take my XC60 with me, the extended warranty will be honored there at the single Volvo dealership in the State (where significant price negotiation from any car dealership, for anything, is rare.)

Sounds like a dealer issue to me as well. I know some states, like Florida, have had some poor laws in the books that were designed to protect consumers but actually hurt them (everyone must pay the same price for equality... but that doesn't mean everyone is paying a good price). Someone above mentioned that has changed some. I sold a car to a Fl resident recently and we looked into it a little. They ended up not buying a warranty so I didn't dig too deep. And I generally try to present my warranty options early in the sales process (no finance office here for last minute pressure decisions)

B i i i g turnoff. For those of us who have been around the block several times, I actually find it insulting when I hear aggressive or "everyone does it" tactics being used on me. I guess enough folks fall for it to justify continuing such sales behavior.

Wandering off-topic for a moment, I got the same hard-sell for an extended warranty from our local Apple Store when I bought my last iPhone six months ago. It was very off-putting to get strong-armed and eye-rolled from a supposedly chill Apple employee. The point, I guess, is that these kinds of patronizing hard-sell tactics aren't going away any time soon.

Has anyone had or know of anyone that had any issues using a Volvo extended warranty purchased through Steingold at a California Volvas dealership? I am thinking of buying one. MIke from Steingold assured me this has never been an issue. He did mention the legal reference on CA website someone shared on this post.

Steingold has the disclaimer because I doubt they want to run afoul of state laws. Not worth the headache. Maybe a printed application is the work around. Either way, Steingold isn't going to put themselves in legal peril over a sale.

Who ****ing cares. You buy a VIP warranty from anywhere, it gets attached to your VIN, and no dealer after that point knows where it was bought from.

Inteller is right, I think. I have had no problems with my Steingold-purchased warranty here in San Diego. I don't think that the service people have any idea where I bought the warranty, nor should they. Volvo promised universal coverage, and as far as Volvo is concerned it should not matter one whit where you bought the warranty-- they are bound to honor it.

Steingold did not have any disclaimer about selling warranties in California when I bought the extended warranty a few years ago. I have a feeling that someone (California dealers?) complained, and Steingold looked into it and changed its policy at that point.

As I mentioned above, I probably would have bought an extended warranty locally if they offered it, but my local dealer only offered a third-party warranty that I didn't fully trust.

I live in a capitalist society. You don't complain you compete. If the Kalifornia dealers don't like the prices, COMPETE!

      COMMUNISTS pass anti competitive regulations.
