      That's very unfortunate!
Did anything particular happen that could have caused this rupture.
The spring looks as if it's made of some kind of "plastic"?

It’s not plastic, it’s composite material.

No just normal driving. Not even jumping speed bumps like I do with the Landcruiser.

      That's always a good sign.

Meaning OP probably had a bad part installed at time of manufacture and incident was isolated.

It's all those eco-friendly new materials. I am all for environmental-concerns, but not when it comes at the expense of reliability...

I'd pay an extra $500 to have that thing made of metal.

I'd also pay extra to have start/stop disabled permanently.

well I guess they thought since it worked in the 960 they'd try again. Problem is the one in the 960 is a lot beefier.

Why metal? Composites have benefits from a weight and flexibility perspective. It would most likely have been cheaper to make the leaf out of metal. If they went that route they probably have their reasons.

Interesting I had not heard of this, sounds cool in the video but to me a lot of $$$ to make the sound. https://www.heicosportiv.de/en/model...uktdetail/3096

Looks like about $3500 USD plus installation (if not installing yourself) for it?

As someone mentioned above, you would not have the same handling and ride properties. A composite leaf of lighter and stronger than a metal one plus allows for less bouncing.

I'd also pay extra to have start/stop disabled permanently.

The last thing I think of actually, because start stop does minuscule things for the environment....and offsets that with the waste of extra batteries needed for it.

Start / Stop can be disabled.....And it is a good system for city drivers stuck in traffic jams. Clearly, it isn't meant for use at every stop sign or brief red light. Thus, the driver can disable the system accordingly to meet his / her driving needs.

Not sure there is really any hard evidence stating how much Start / Stop reduces battery life. I'm sure there's some reduction but just how much is up for debate.

It's not about reducing battery life it's the extra battery it needs in order to function.

I certainly want the car in front stops the engine when waiting at red light for 30 seconds, so I don't smell it.

No effect. There a two batteries in the car, one that is works with start/stop.

Absolutely more effect, you are having to mine more dirty minerals to make more batteries to enable an minuscule feature to seek out an extra mpg of fuel economy.
