Buttoned her up with the new alternator, hood latch, and rear shocks + mounts. And it drives like a dream! I never get good pictures of it though, gotta change that soon. I also scored a set of volans for pretty cheap ($280) awhile back, idk if I told you all about that lol

Oh yea, getting the pulley off of the old alternator was a PITA! There are parts of a screwdriver in the core LOL

Nice. I see even in MN it has found its way to its natural habitat of being surrounded by boats LOL

You should probably install a grill. I'd either grab a new waterfall on ebay for $30 or get an eggcrate. Everyone hates the waterfall because old ones look like trash. Clean waterfalls are actually not that bad.

I knew youíd comment on the location lol!

I have a waterfall grille, itís off because Iím not confident in the hood opening yet. Thereís a new cable but the latches still seem really difficult and I donít want to bust out the grille if they fail.

Iíve seen the eggcrate on IPD, is there a better source for it? If not I might order it and a set of new rubber floor mats

To get just one they're probably the best option. There are other sources but none of them make sense if you're in America. Viva has the all black one but personally I think the one with the chrome surround looks way better.

But the weather (and fleet makeup) has changed quite a bit since that photo was taken a week ago!

The 850 is running really well! Compared to the other R lol!

But Iím getting a P0172 code and the car is running rich, I can smell it.

The caps on the vacuum tree came off so I put more on, but itís still running rich with the code.

It stumbles pretty hard even when adding throttle with no load in park, every other vacuum hose is brand new, new MAF, and Iím lost lol

Evan there could be vacuum leak at the rear fuel filter area or atop the fuel tank, or an evap hose, or a sas hose if equipped. Also check the rubber going into the fuel press reg. You said you checked everything. I just thought Iíd offer a few other culprits to consider. Cheers.

Oh I didnít even think of these! Theyíre probably all sorts of dry rotted, unfortunately. Iíll have to pick up some tubing when I get more parts tomorrow. Are there diagrams handy somewhere that you know of? Iíve only looked at threads involving the engine bay lines, nothing specific to the rear of the car

More goodies! Thereís a local welder who Iím going to contact about fabbing up an exhaust with this. Didnít want to ask for a custom downpipe but custom exhausts around here are comparable to full kits online so thatís the route Iíll be taking.

Still chasing the issue causing the car to run rich, and Iíve been battling getting the rear hydraulic engine mount bolt in between the sway bar and the frame, has anyone has the issue before?

I've done that rear hydraulic mount twice (once on my S70 once on the 850). The first time I don't remember having a problem with it, the second time I was ready to throw the entire car in the trash I was so frustrated. I can't remember what the eventual solution was, but I recall using several extensions... What's the exact issue you're having?

Yea. Drop the subframe. Leave the rack in the car. An inch is all it takes.

It's like I can't get the bolt and threaded hole on the mount collinear, even if I attempt to just use my hand to get it threaded into the hole. I'm nervous that the first couple of threads on the bolt or the mount are fubar'd.

Even if I were to use a bunch of extensions I don't think that would work, maybe with a universal joint swivel, but even then I don't think it'll be able to initiate the threads.

Seems like a good time to do delrin bushings! I think the exhaust will get done before the manual swap that I've been accumulating parts for begins. But in other good news I found another m56l(k?), how do I find the specific transmission info on VIDA?

      Look at pn

You need to change the brackets otherwise the shifter will be super wacked

Iíve been slowly amassing parts, found an external slave m56h locally for dirt cheap so if it pans out Iíll be going that route. Still trying to figure out the pedal switch situation, but once I get my hands on my pedal set it wonít be hard to modify if needed.

Luckily my patience has been rewarded in terms of the amazing deals Iíve been finding on parts! At this rate the manual swap (and damn near the entire build) will be done by summer, which Iím AMPED about lol

But the biggest update is regarding my awd vs. fwd opinion. I appreciate my VRís awd system this winter, but Iím excited to experience this car in the summer and actually test its limits at the upcoming autocross events this summer.

Going home this weekend so Iíll make sure to drag it out of the garage and snap some pictures of it

Nice. Isn't it amazing the deals you can score with some patience? I did the same thing with my 850R.....don't get me wrong that was still an expensive project but I would be into it for probably at least another $5k more than I am if I hadn't spent years bargain hunting.

I just need to get my hands on a pedal set !!! I have so many notifications set all over the place but whenever something pops up it turns out to be sold a long time ago or a mistake. I don't know why I'm having issues getting one but I'm hopeful one will pop up soon.

There's a MY98 V70 NA 3 pedal that showed up at the LKQ in Blue Island, IL on January 31st.

I wonder how the AWD will help in the dry conditions on a track. Small songbirds have been telling me the haldex systems understeer like crazy, so I'm anticipating your opinion as well.

I think you intended this for his V70R thread.

Whoopsies. The dangers of being overcaffeinated on the computer. What I meant was I am looking forward to see what he thinks of a P80 AWD system on a dry track versus his 850 on a track. I've never owned an AWD P80 so I'm eager to hear what happens.

Ahhh. Got it. Apple-to-apples would be wagon-to-wagon (or sedan-to-sedan) and similar setups, right? I guess he had his NA wagon previously, so that will help with the comparison.

AWD doesnít make these cars understeer. Itís the 67% front axle weight that does it.

Hmm, hasn't been as long as it has felt, me being away that is. Corona has made life crazy since spring break.

Anywho, I finally found an acceptable pedal set to use on the swap. It's from a X70 so I won't have a clutch return spring but it will work. Still keeping my eye out for an 850 pedal set though. Picking up a external slave m56h later this week, which is actually the same one that I got my SMF from. And now I am in process of ordering parts. The list is as follows (Name/Part Number):
      • R Clutch Kit 272218
      • Release bearing 9181780
      • Slave Cylinder 9181017
      • Master Cylinder 9163880
      • Clutch hydraulic hose 9181437
      • Flywheel bolts 9454743
      • Pressure Plate Bolt 959219
      • Shift cable retention clips 3502507
      • Clip for cable to transmission bracket 989037
      • Input Shaft Seal 41mm 1381798
      • Intake Manifold gasket 9146266
      • Manual Throttle Cable 9157600

I'm planning on making my own master cylinder fluid hose and skipping the clutch fork dust boot. I triple checked my excel sheet with what Alex put here, huuuuge thanks to him too, amamzing write up and the most up to date: (https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/fo...hp?f=1&t=92486)

Now I'm just waiting on pulling the trigger on all of the parts because of how big the bill is. Does anyone have any of the above parts laying around in new/unused condition that you would sell me? Let me know!

And of course, I'll find the most recent picture of the R. My dad copped some cross bars, which I love, and is driving it on nice days with the Amaltheas that we have laying around. The Volans need a set of Zlines that I'm working on getting too.
