      2016 XC90 Lease End - 2019 Worth It?

      Greetings:

I have looked around for threads discussing this, but I've only managed to gather a few snippets here and there.

I have a fully-loaded 2016 XC90 T8 Inscription that is coming on its lease end. I'm considering, among other things, replacing it with a 2019 XC90. Other than the grille and minor exterior appearance changes, what are some of the improvements that will help me evaluate this choice? Thanks in advance!

The 2020 is four model years newer than what you are driving now. Depending on what type of buy back you have, you might consider waiting for the 2022 which is a model year change, or just go with the newer vehicle. This is assuming you want to remain in the Volvo Family. Volvo is a conservative company so I do not expect the 2022 to be a radical departure from what is working well for them. Depending on your specific needs perhaps the upcoming XC40 all electric vehicle might work. You have not told us what kind of ownership you experienced thus far with your 2016 T8? I have a problem free 2017 T8 that I really enjoy driving, and would not consider anything other than the new 2022 model as the change will represent a significant investment on my part. By then our Great Pyrenees (currently 9 1/2 years of age) may have passed, so we might downsize to a XC60. Or we will keep the 2017 T8 and I will get myself a sports car 2017+ NSX for my remaining days. Just don't know....

MY2019 T8 battery is 10.4kwH, a little more than MY2016. This seems the only difference, if you've got PA2 update, dual USB and Android Auto update on MY2016.
It should be good to lease a MY2019 now and next time lease ends in 2022 you can move to new model that should have some exciting updates like Android dash and voice control.

For MY2020 we are still not clear on final spec. But I am interested to see if PA with Navi (as described in XC60/V60 P*Engineered car standard feature on volvocars.com/us) is available on XC90 as well.
If you like to still have a 7seat PHEV like T8, I don't see other vehicle can really replace it.

      Thank you very much!

FWIW, my experience with the 2016 was pretty good. I had the dead battery issue (twice) and the air suspension failure, but otherwise it was great.

Why not buy it out then? A trouble free car is a blessing ... you should still have one year left on the comprehensive warranty as well.

MY2019 T8 also has a bigger gas tank (18.5 gal) than previous model years (13.2 gal)

From the MY2019 T8 owners manual:
Also checkout the improvements discussed here:
      https://youtu.be/zRH8W4qMwjI
Lastly, in our MY2019T8 we're getting 25miles (!) on a full charge, summertime, light A/C, hypermiling, local roads, light traffic and hills, which is more than the official estimate (20miles) but YMMV. There are separate threads on mileage.
Personally, I'm excited about a full battery electric XC90 in MY2022 but as with any new car release there will be new car gremlins that I anticipate being resolved by MY2025 or MY2026. Then throw in Volvo's incremental MY improvements to prolong the purchase decision. I'm hoping to wait out my next XC90 purchase until MY2029 unless the tech (am not sure what more I need or want as autonomy is blah to me), value, beauty, functionality, safety, etc is that much better (not including the charging infrastructure) . . .
