Moved to Charlotte from Tampa - any recomendations for service?

Hey everyone - I am the original owner of a 2007 C70 with manual trans. Only 77k miles and while I have kept it bone stock I am interested in some performance mods (exhaust, etc...) but also just looking for recommendations for normal maintenance. I am in Ballantyne but willing to drive a bit as needed. I do have an appointment with the local Volvo dealer in a couple weeks so I will see how that goes (based on my prior dealer experiences in other places my expectations are low). Independent (chain of) shops called Woody's looks decent. Looks like there are a couple shops that specialize in European cars in Pineville... any suggestions / recommendations / warnings are appreciated!

tarhoosier, are you still on here? Youíve got a new neighbor!

He recently sold his Ď11 C70 but you can check his threads for contact info if he doesnít join the conversation.

De nada. You also might want to send a DM to bmdubya1198. He has/had numerous Volvos and is in your area. Does his own work so Iím sure if heís ever had occasion to need someone, heís very selective in whom he chooses for things he canít do himself.

Indeed! I have not (yet) run into anything beyond my abilities (my R pushed me very close due to running out of patience, but I figured it out just before I sent it off!). I do however know of a few shops in the Charlotte area that specialize in Volvos, which I would use if the need arose.

Hey Dubya - thanks and this is great info....these all look like good choices.....hate to put you on the spot but for upcoming work I have scheduled with the local Volvo dealer, would you go with one of these folks instead? I need front headliner replaced, new rope on drivers side back headliner, and general lube and inspection of the hard top mechanicals.

I don't have any experience with the service department at either of the dealers (Volvo Charlotte and University Volvo) so I can't say either way. They should be able to handle that job no problem.
My issue with dealers is that I know what can go on in those service departments... my cousin works at a VW dealer in Charlotte and he sees it every day. Tons of inexperienced employees not doing the complete job or doing it incorrectly (eg. changing the oil and not the filter). Not to say that's how Volvo is, hopefully they have more professional techs!

If you already have the appointment scheduled, it probably wouldn't hurt to give them a try. I know both dealers have good reputations overall.

A smart person knows his/her limitations, but honestly these all seem like things you could do yourself. It will take a little searching through the forum, but there are good write-ups on all three of these (which reminds me that I need to lube the mechanicals on mine again).

That said, youíre probably best going to the dealer rather than an indie if youíre not comfortable tackling them on your own. I have complete faith in my indie when it comes to the engine bay and I donít have the tools/time/skills to do it myself ó a P1ís a P1 there ó but not the convertible mechanicals. They just donít see enough of them.

That's a good point... an indie may not be as familiar with the C70 top as with any other system in the car.

Thanks Dub, good to know that those dealers have generally good reps

Hey 88; I have done many of the basic repairs on my cars (worked in a garage part time when I was younger), but with the C70 top headliner, if it is not perfect then I could end up ruining whatever replacement I put on....and I figure if the dealer messes it up it is on them to do the job again And, the one thing I will say for the Tampa and St Pete dealers; they only let the C70 tech work on those cars...even if it is just an oil change. Seems like overkill to me (and makes for slower turn around time), but it gives me a little more confidence in the dealer experience.

I hear ya. Thatís why I grabbed a few extra clips when I was lucky enough to get to a C70 in the jy last year. Sure enough, I broke two of them trying to redo the sagging rear headliner in my Ď08.

Hey Road Trip! I live in Huntersville (North of Charlotte) but commute to Ballantyne 3+ days a week for work. Maybe I'll see you on the road!

When I get dealer work done, I use University Volvo. I have had a 2004 S60R from them and now the 2010 C70. I have not had any issues with the service department.

      Thanks!

Thanks Ben! Yes - if you see a red C70 it is probably me
