Iím seeing that, but donít see how Iíd go about buying the parts to accomplish it. Are the calipers replaced, or is it just rotors and the carriers?

Thanks for always chiming in with your experience
Calipers, rotors, pads, lines. Itís effectively base Xc90 brakes.

If you were looking for 305mm brackets which is just a bracket/rotor change thatís super easy. I can easily get a set of those used for you

Iíll see how this setup works. If I still feel like they wonít cut it, I may order some 305mm rotors and take you up on that. Might also see if there are any XC90ís from that generation sitting at the pick n pulls and grab parts from that, but I doubt theyíre lying around.

      Thanks again

I monitor the local LA and Inland Empire LKQ yards via their app and there's at least an XC90 or two that roll through weekly... I watch Sunland, Monrovia, Ontario, Fontana and one in the Santa Fe Springs area...

      Well, that certainly looks effective!

Finally put some decent break-in miles on mine, Iíll see how they do this week with some harder stops.

Well, I just came back from a run up and down Angeles Crest. I've done about 200 miles of regular street driving up to now, with increasingly quicker runs along Mulholland "Raceway" as they bedded in, but today was the first real test. And I'm happy to say... WOW the difference is night and day.

It's pretty warm today, and I was fortunate to have almost no traffic for my downhill run from Newcombs Ranch. I wasn't going all out but kept it at a pretty rapid pace, and the new setup did VERY well. Pedal stayed firm, didn't sink to the floor, no moaning from high heat.. I'm relieved to say that they do the job. The final real test is a certain canyon road in Malibu I like that has overheated the brakes of almost every car I've ever driven there - and the only two that didn't were a Boxster Spyder and a Camaro Z/28, both equipped with carbon ceramic brakes - but for the daily that gets a brisk run, they seem pretty good.

So.. it's just clear that the old setup was complete junk from day one, and the brake fluid was older as well. But I definitely still find myself staring at the front brakes of every XC90 from this era I see running around here, and will score that setup the next time I see one pop up at the local pick n pull.

Much thanks to you guys for the info, as usual.

-oh and to sum up, at this point, setup is simply -

      Zimmerman 286mm zinc-plated vented rotors
      Akebono ceramic pads
      Motul 600 brake fluid

Angeles Crest up to Newcoms ranch and back is a good run. Glad to hear the new setup is much better!
