Does the 2020 XC90 concave grill fit older models?

Just wondering is anyone has looked into upgrading their 2016-2019 XC90 grill to the 2020 version. The sales guy at my Volvo said he thought the dimensions are different, so it probably wouldn't fit, but I don't see a change in the size of the opening.

Good to see that I am not the lone wolf looking to do this if possible. Anyone has any inputs on this?

I can only say that the front bumper is different. That might effect things

Even dimension is slightly different, with dremel and 3M tape, there is nothing couldn't fit.

      Yes its possible.

Although front bumper looks a bit different, grill dimensions - same.
Know some guys did it for their MY19>MY20. Front camera module also same size, so they swapped it to new grill.

is it odd to have Inscription grill on a momentum? I really like inscription grill but I feel odd putting it on a momentum.
bit like putting M or S badge on 335i or A4. ok maybe not that extreme.

Nope. I had a co worker who took his XL F150 and put a Platinum grill on it... frankly it looks pretty good. Because the Volvo relies more on the lines of the body than too much extra trim work I don't think you'll look out of place by swapping grills.

The 2020 Momentum and Inscription concave grills are almost indistinguishable. I built a 2020 Inscription and a Momentum T6 on volvocars.com, and when you click between the two it appears the only difference is the thickness of the louvers (or whatever you call them). Otherwise, I don't see a noticeable difference like there is between the black and grey grill colors of the earlier models.

I think you have to look really hard to distinguish an Inscription from a Momentum. Even the T5 now has the same shape tailpipes. Volvo finally got smart and reduced their part numbers. All XC90s now have the same roof rails, tailpipes, and front and rear bumpers as far as I can tell. The only difference on the outside is the side panel, which has some chrome on the inscription.

It's all about how you feel. if you feel odd about it - don't do it I like it and I would put it on our XC, but I feel strange to spend a few hundred bucks on mod that nobody will notice. Instead, I can buy an awesome fishing rod

Is the new R-Design grill also concave like the Inscription? I found some pics online that seem to be the 2020 R-Design but the grill does not look concave...

      Anyone want to trade?

Just picked up my 2020 Inscription in Crystal White. Absolutely love it besides the new grill design.

Seems I'm in the minority here but for some reason I feel that the concave grille isn't more "modern" (as Volvo markets it) but makes the front end look more dated/smaller over the 19MY Inscription Grill. Looks like a step back over a step forward in my personal opinion.

Anyone wiling to trade? I know it's not the easiest to remove, but willing to do the work since it just rubs me the wrong way whenever I look at it.

Open hearing why you guys like the concave so much!?

      +1
However I do like the looks of the new bumper part below the grill (ie that spans from left foglamp to right foglamp) which is more "open" which I find accentuates the front more. Wish I could easily swap that out

I just got a CPO 2018 XC90 inscription and looking to swap for the concave if your in the DFW area of tx. I have a 2018 S90 inscription I got last year and was disappointed to see they made the grill on the S90 concave but not the XC90, so not quite twins-like as I was hoping. I hadn't thought of swapping but was planning to buy a grille. Let me know.

I am about to order the concave inscription grille for my 2018 xc90
Is the below part number correct? When I go on Tasca the image it shows is of an old design grille

Okay, looking to upgrade my 2018 R-Design to the new black trim grill... looks like that is for a 2021 and not a 2020 (still satin silver for that year). I checked a VIN on a new model and a parts guy said he thought the part number should be #316555799 but none of the online parts sites show 2021 model year as a selection. Can anyone verify if that it the right part number for an all black R-Design grill?

I would not bother buying new grill! Just wrap the silver trim around it with 3M Gloss Wrap, did it on my 2020 and actually looks better than the 2021 lol The Volvo arrow also got wrapped so it's all black, the 2021 arrow is all silver. I can upload a pic if you want.

I already did that 2 years ago... but with the shape of the corners the wrap did not hold. It is starting to peel up in one corner... figured it is wasn't too much I could just get the factory grill which should last longer.

Let's see how long it will hold, so far so good. Mine is a lease so def. not investing in a new grill.
