Unfortunately I bought mine as a four-year-old certified pre-owned so I'm never getting that much money back again

I figure if I donít sell my P2s I never actually lose money...

So far Iíve spent about $37,000 on my P2s maybe. Including purchase, parts, repairs and maintenance.

That's a good way to think about it - if you never sell a P2 then the loss is never realized. Until that time it's just an unrealized loss and who cares about those?

But then how do you account for them on your net worth spreadsheet? My 850s are by far my most valuable hard assets, so I can't not count them, but, if I have no plans to cash out, does it really matter how much value they add to my net worth?

      Maybe this will help..

Yes, you should track them. Now.. what's the value of your 850s? You probably have an opinion on that .. your 850 is worth whatever someone will buy it for at the moment you're selling it. I track my cars as assets very lazily. That is.. I take whatever the wholesale value of that model of vehicle is at the time I happen to sit down and make the adjustment (Like 3 times a year for cars lol). For my purposes I don't need to be more accurate than that. Whether Wichita is worth $6,000 or $9,000 is trivial to my net worth for a few reasons:
      1. The car's value is a constantly moving target
      2. The overall value of the car isn't high
      3. The asset's tracked purpose is in case of liquidation.
      4. The value will change during conversion

Your net worth is your scorecard. If it's not going up over time there's a problem.

tldr: If your car's depreciation is affecting your net worth significantly you bought the wrong car.

LOL yeah. And I bet that is true for most Americans with a car payment.

I also track my values pretty lazily. They're not going to make or break my financial future so I have a ballpark number in there just to have something to make my calculation more representative of reality. It's not really opinion based, either; I use the ads in Europe for the cars that actually sell and base my valuation on those, because I probably wouldn't bother trying to sell in America if I ever did sell. My current valuation is from August and I probably won't bother adjusting existing hard assets again until Q3 2020. My time is better spent figuring out what to do with my liquid assets lol.

Generally avoid NYC cars, but this 05 XC70 looks pretty clean for $1900 w/ 153k on it. Might make a good winter car.

I have no idea what my cars are worth so for me it's sort of a worthless exercise. I just insured my T-5R for $10k agreed value with Haggerty. I have no clue if that's high or low (probably high, lol).

Tell me more about insuring your T-5R with Haggerty. I tried them last year just for mine and they would not really do anything for me at that time.

Pretty simple really. Went online, input my information, got a quote, paid with credit card, got insurance card - $337 per year, $10k agreed value.

Make sure youíre asking for the right thing. Thereís stated value policies which are fairly easy to attain and then there are policies for collector cars. If you call and try to get a collectible policy for your R youíll probably hit some roadblocks.

Stated value policies are exactly what they sound like. You and the insurer agree on a specific payout. There are restrictions on what you can do with the car and when it pays that value so always a good idea to read the policy manual before signing up.

Well here in MA we have a green and leafy version of that....that my legally temporary building would probably be better suited to than cars LOL.

      Anyone need a C70 Parts car? $600

      https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/invent...ting=257009010

Is it worth $600 when you factor in cost to tow?

Thanks guys for answering my question. Yes I was trying to do it as collector car insurance. Now with go back to them and ask for stated value.

Stated value policies are exactly what they sound like. You and the insurer agree on a specific payout. There are restrictions on what you can do with the car and when it pays that value so always a good idea to read the policy manual before signing up.
Just to clarify, "stated value" is not your insurance company agreeing on a specific payout.

Stated Value - You provide a coverage ceiling for the value of the car, but the insurance company still determines their own value at the time of a claim
Agreed Value - You and your insurance company agree on the value of the car with the agreed value also serving as the ceiling

The key here is that you shouldn't have to fight over value with an agreed value policy.

Double checked my Hagerty policy and they call it "Guaranteed Value" but it's pretty much defined as agreed value.

      Same here.

I'm posting the Hagerty policy for the 2006 VR I had so others can see an example.
