We had one like that earlier this year. All he did was dick around on YouTube all day long. I tried to get him engaged with some cool data munching to solve a problem but he just nodded and never came back to ask for help and then his internship ended. Never did anything. He didn't get credit for it either

We pay these interns very well and we give them a great opportunity. We hire interns straight into FTE jobs here. Why blow such an opportunity??

We seriously get candidates in for interviews who just graduated and have this distorted belief that they deserve a job and when we don't call them back their mom calls us.
The point of them living on campus is to be away from parents and still have some sort of support cause 18YO don't know how to live on their own (and they ought not expected to be). I can not wait til I send my kid(s) to BFE nowhere (Itasca comes to mind) and they have to fend for themselves in a dorm, in a boring-ass town that snows 25% of the year. It was a highly valuable part of my college education. Then on year 2 they can go f-about off-campus after they've learned how to doctor up a bowl of $1 ramen with eggs, tofu, seaweed and shichimi, as well as use burger king coupons.

The righteousness of the post-Millenials can't possibly be worsened by the first year dorm experience. Also, I'd be damned if 1 of my kids live at home for 4 more gd years after HS graduation. Off you go, take the POS Volvo with you. There's a reason why we opened 529s for the kids when they entered first grade -- so I can party w/ the Mrs granny-swinger style. j/k, sorta?

Volvo content: my China-key broke right off at the tip where the blade meets the body, taking with it half of the top. Thankfully the radio transmitter stayed inside. I bet that hasn't happened to anyone?

That car is now on Ebay. $5K seems ambitious for a non registered car that looks like raccoons have lived in it.

Yup I had one of those at work this summer too. I'd give him something I thought should take like an hour to do and he'd be like "I think I can get that done by tomorrow." Every time I'd go over there to see what he was up to he'd be surfing Instagram. And then half the drawings would be wrong. Like bro! This shiit ain't hard just hang up the phone for maybe even just 75% of the day to start?

I got complimented by one of the guys who interviewed me a few months after I got hired for not surfing the net at my desk on my work computer. Hey. If that's the bar I have to clear, I'm not complaining!!

They would not show up, be late, stay on their phone all day, get cranky when they didnít get their full hour lunch break, the list goes on. We seriously get candidates in for interviews who just graduated and have this distorted belief that they deserve a job and when we don't call them back their mom calls us.
And to believe that socialism is a better form of governance and economic model over capitalism. This is the regime curriculum that Charlotte Iserbyt realized was being implemented which subsequently led to her writing, The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America.

I agree somewhat with R powered though, students are taught basic skills which prepare them for the workplace, but what a lot of people don't realize is that the school system is controlled by people who intend to keep society in a box for as long as they can. And I point to one of the best examples proving this which is the whole General Motors EV1 electric car built in the 90's which threatened the oil cartel who had so much power over GM that they were successful in telling GM how to run their company when they forced GM to issue the vehicles at lease only with no buy option at the end of the term.

How Elon Musk finally got started his company, Tesla, I believe is a miracle. There are many inventors who have proven that oil and coal are obsolete, and then some of them go missing, and some never speak about their inventions that could change the world.

There does need to be order though in terms of technology because the right tools in the wrong hands could spell disaster for all life here, and then some, so to keep a close eye on humanity is important, imo. (See the Philadelphia experiment). I do believe that the wackos running things could use more compassion however.

His dad was a local judge. They were scared to fire him. I had to continually write him up until there was "sufficient documentation" for them to fire him. It got to the point where I would just have the write up sitting on his desk in the morning for him to review. I think He thought He would never get fired, but it eventually happened.

Ahh yea the stroll in around 10, surf facebook, look at memes, take a 1.5 hour lunch.. come back .. watch some youtube videos and then leave at 4.

Must be nice. I'm a savage at work sometimes. I go right up to their boss and ask why they work here still. I event sent photos every day by email of a guy sleeping at his desk. That finally got him canned. These sorry sacks of *** bring down productivity, set a terrible example and negatively affect my bonus. When Wolfy gets a bigger bonus, Wolfy rescues more Volvos.

Ha. One of the guys, who has been at this company forever, told this summer's intern he was fired within a day of starting....nobody realized just how right he was. This guy also specializes in saying the most ridiculous shiit possible so nobody ever takes him seriously. But at least this intern was actually showing up around 8 and supposedly was there till 5, but he was taking pretty long lunches. I also usually show up around 6:40 AM and leave by 2:30 or 3:30 depending on the day (I hate spending all the daylight hours in an office, and also hate commuting at peak...plus I really like getting there an hour before anyone else except the guy who told the intern was fired so I can actually get stuff done in peace) so I didn't really know when he actually left. Doesn't really matter when you spend 60% of the day on Instagram. I don't even know what is on Instagram that's worth looking at for 5 hours.

I'd be tempted to go in earlier but I'm limited by the public transportation schedule . Also not sure how much I can jerk around the schedule before they start getting annoyed.....although one of the first times I did it, I told one of the management guys why I was leaving and he was like "oh, good for you." Same guy who complemented me for not surfing the net. And he has a XC70 he asks me for advice for from time to time LOL.
