Yes, I agree that the current crop of youth entering the workforce have some f*cked up ideas about productivity and professionalism. (And don't even get me going on having to use names like Hannah and Zoe in a professional setting. Seriously, those are names you expect to hear a mom yell out at dance or swim classes, not be in charge of a business account.) However, in my experience spelling out clear expectations about job performance (and enforcing it consistently) goes a long way in development. Just my $0.02.

I wish. Busy splitting wood. A month or so ago I had someone take down 19 huge trees around the house/property. I have 3-ft long logs stacked or lying all around the entire perimeter of the yard. Now I get the joy of spending the next few years slowly but surely splitting and stacking the wood from all of these logs. It's what I'm doing with most of my daylight free time.

Do you have a woodstove or one of those external wood boilers?

My dad has a woodstove and when I go visit I always help with the wood - cutting, splitting, stacking.

19 trees is a lot - hopefully you have a woodshed or can keep it out of the elements otherwise it'll rot before you can use it all.

I happen to drive by this dealership the other day and stopped to look at this SR, but didn't bother asking for keys. Cosmetically, it's worse than the photos. No major dents, but plenty of scratches. The Gobi is pretty rough too. Even if it's mechanically sound, the price is too high, IMHO.

Yep. That's what I'm using. It's miserable on your back (bending down to move all the wood around), even in the vertical position, but it's better than swinging a maul.

I don't have a woodshed, but I'm stacking it all up and then I'll tarp it over to (hopefully) keep it viable for many years to come.

Lol. That's a good quick rant but I am compelled to respond by adding that cannabis (marijuana) belongs no where near the actual drugs listed as it's not a destroyer in any sense like the others are.

But you're right, every generation will trash talk the incoming generation, however, there are still remnants of the good old world remaining, hanging on for dear life.

PlayStation and Xbox though are great for the driving simulators, gran Turismo, and Forza motorsports. But maybe we should back to horse and carriage.

How do you guys get these jobs where you still have time to live life?! I wish I had time to cut down trees! I get half way through figuring out how to mod a P2 shifter into a P80 and discover the next day I forgot part of it and still think it was a good day.

Well, I didn't get one with this kind of flexibility until after I turned 33 and after I'd finished my MBA. The job I worked for 5 years prior to this had some flexibility (my boss had full reign over the flexibility of the job, so he gave me a lot of leeway since my work was always getting done). The job I'm doing now is typically reserved for semi-retired retirement-aged individuals, or at least that's usually the only type of person who would take a job like this one. It started as a one year contract to oversee the installation of a 345kV substation, which got extended into a second year to support/oversee the installation of a 1000MW power plant, but then it will be over and I'll be on the hunt again. The job is in no way guaranteed and they can basically end the contract at any time (w/30 days notice). All the people working contracts like I am are at least in their late-50's, with most in their 60's, and one in his 70's. I don't require a steady income or health benefits, so I'm able to capture a premium for taking this kind of temporary work. I have no idea if I'll be able to find this kind of lax job environment again, so I'm enjoying it for all it's worth right now.
