      Seeking Advice

As the resident Volvo guy in my family, my father has asked me to figure out whether or not He should get an S90. He rented one recently and fell in love with it, but is admittedly weary of any reliability issues. I know very little about SPA platform cars so I told him I would do what I could to gather real world info on the car (I know more about the older generations (P80's)).

I did some digging and read on here that there have been some transmission issues and some hiccups with the center display/ phone integration. Is there anything else worth noting before He looks into the car further?

      Some things to note...
He's 72 and not super tech savvy, but He knows his way around a computer and an iPhone
He does not keep cars long, maybe 3-4 years max
He is currently on his 5th Ford in a row (Crown Vic, Ranger, 2 Fusions, and now an Explorer)
He is interested in a slightly used T6 or T8 (I told him T8 is probably not worth it since he mostly does long highway drives but He likes the quoted HP) - big difference?

Without a lot of thought, I recommended a T6 with the P* optimization added. But that's more of my taste in chassis / engine combo.

      Thanks in advance!

Should be no worries about 2017+ cars. Early 2016 cars are a little tricky because of possible missed spark plugs servicing, sunroof, etc.

T8 is of couse great to have. Power mode on freeway is very cool. Problem is hard to find stock T8 car and test drive.

If only keep it for 3-4 years I would lease it, or find a CPO car if doesn't need to be new.

He does about 50-60k in 3-4 years so leasing is not an ideal route. He is looking at CPO T6's and T8's. There are plenty of T8's in our area to look at, I just don't see the value in the added complexity of T8. At the end of the day, that's his choice to make though.

I'd recommend a lightly used 2017/2018 t6 cpo. I imagine he would appreciate the extended thigh cushion for extra support over long trips.

Unless some issue happens and need repair, there is nothing extra to maintain for T8. So complexity is just for the techs. For owners it is quiet, comfortable and extra excitement.

We spent an our discussing the T8 hybrid configuration and He was getting really confused, even confusing me a little. The leading configuration right now is a CPO 2018 T6 Inscription. He likes the added length of the 2018 vs. 2017.

Sounds like you're good to go. He'll be in good hands with the unlimited mile CPO warranty. I would extend it out to match his expected ownership period. Doing the full 10 year vs just adding a year or two is not generally a big jump and then it might be worth a bit more on the resale side.

T8 can be as easy as driving it like anything else, only faster, or as complex as turning on certain modes for certain conditions in order to maximize e-range and using bluetooth control on chargers in order to charge during off peak hours. It's totally up to each customer for how involved they want to be.
