I really doubt the joke had anything to do with his having had cancer. Also, I doubt most anyone even knew he had cancer at some point.

No one mentioned cancer. We all FN die sooner or later. Although it’s doubtful the price would rise unlike some painting by a dead artist.

Now jay Leno or Jerry we might be talking a different story.

Yes I knew he had cancer. And glad he is doing better. BUT....

Here is the understanding of the joke for some people that didn't get it.

There is no extra value in the car if Val Kilmer was the original owner or any owner of that car. Since he played the Saint in newer movie he got basically a free C70.
And the C70 in the movie was a Coral Red.
(Got to see the premier of the movie for free when I worked for Volvo Cars)

When Roger Moore was the Saint in the TV series. He drive and personal owned(for many years) the White P1800 in show. And that car does have value and increased in value after he passed away. (Crap, Roger Moore passed away of Prostate Cancer. Damn I give up)
Believe Jay Leno did a chat and drive on his show of that P1800 of Roger Moore's.
