      2011 XC70 vibration at 40

So I have owned 7 Volvos over the last 10 years and I am slowly infecting my neighbors (one bought a 2019 XC70 T8 last year), and now my brother in law is looking at a 2011 XC70. It's AWD with the 3.2 NA engine.

He test drove it and said there was a slight vibration at about 40 MPH but it disappeared after that. I think he has ruled out wheel bearings. Could it be wear or slop an angle gear on the AWD system or a transmission issue? It has 99,000 miles and was a one-owner trade in to the non-Volvo dealer. When he told the salesman about the vibration, the guy said he would have it looked at, for what it's worth. Just a few hours ago so no feedback yet.

      Any input is appreciated.

      Thanks!
      Coldax

I had an experience last year with some brand new tires that lead me to eventually get the wheels balanced on a road force balancer - this was the only thing that detected the problem. I have since sworn I will only buy tires from a shop with a road force balancer haha. I don't know this for sure, but it's possible there is something about these cars that make them a bit more sensitive to tire-imbalance than other cars? no idea

I agree. It is the only way. Most drivers accept vibrations at around 100km/u and leave it for what it is. Dont. Above 100 it normally stops but it’s not the way it should be. Mine after (force) balance are smooth as silk and the steering wheel doesn’t vibrate not 1mm. Awesome. (19”)

Thanks for the replies. The car seems to have a suspect history and my BIL is probably going to keep searching.
