      Headlight wiring issues

Hello from a new owner of an 08 C30! I'm new to the Volvo world but really like the car so far. The head light (halogen) went out and woah... What a mess, all the insulation on wiring inside the housing is disintegrated. Is there anywhere to get a replacement wiring harness or should I just replace the whole Assembly? If so any recommendations for where to get one? I assume this is a common issue, so I'm not sure getting a used one will be any better.

Here ya go. the wiring is completely trashed and needs replaced. In the 2nd photo, the insulation that's there just crumbles off the wiring as it's moved. I don't really see a way to save this outside of putting a mile of heat shrink on it. Even then, I'm not sure it's the best plan.

Does this mean I'm the only one with this issue?

No, pretty common. Mine were like that and I spent the better part of an hour wrapping every wire in both headlights with old-school cloth friction tape. Cheaper than buying new headlights, give it a go.

a new used assembly is 200$ but be sure to check if it has the wire harness inside
go ahead and wrap them with electric tape or like he said friction cloth and see if it works and save some money
you can shrink tube if you want but might be a pain to disassemble each wire
we dont want bare wires to touch each other and we dont want water getting in so check the rubber grommets too and you should be fine

See what it would take to fix this, disassembly of the headlight, taping/heat shrinking each wire, cleaning and resealing the headlight assembly coupled with having referbushing the plastic lens I decided to just replace them.
