      Key won't release after door locked on the P1800

      Hi,

      This is rather embarrassing, but I just got a P1800 and I don't know how to lock my "new" car door

      I turn the key 90 degree and the key won't release, I tried on both door, same thing happens.

      I did the same with the trunk and that worked fine, I don't know what I am doing wrong and really don't want to break it.

      Thanks for any helps or tips.

      I can't answer your question directly; but, if you go here:

      http://volvo1800pictures.com/sweden/...in_page_en.php

      you can find copies of the original owners manuals which should clarify if there is something unusual about the 1800 door locks. There are also copies of the service manuals which is useful for a new owner.

      Conundrum;

      I'm not sure if this answers your question, but if you insert Key, and turn it 90 Deg to lock (or unlock), you must turn it back to be able to withdraw Key again...is it possible to have previous owner show you how, or give advice if there is "a trick" to it?...and when you do get it open, lubing the ancient lock mechanics (I believe there is a hole in top of lockworks for this, otherwise a light oil with high film-strength [I like Tri-Flow for all Lock Cylinders, external and Ign Sw also!])...if things are really sluggish, removing Door Panel to get access to internals and pivots will give a big improvement also...

      Good Hunting!

      Don't feel bad. I bought my car from a classic car consignment with hundreds of classics. They were stumped as well.
      Just remember - The key comes out at the same degree as when you put it in. You put it in, turn clockwise (or counterclockwise) from that position to lock or unlock - then back to the original position to remove the key.

      Its been 5 days - I am thinking that the OP may have figured this out on his own.
