      CCM interchangeability?

I recently started getting a message in vida that my cabin temp sensor was not functioning. I ignored it for a while which was fine but I’ve recently started getting bursts of cold air at high speed on start-up after having turned off car for short period of time.

Though I might be able to just change out the temp sensor so went to wreckyard and grabbed a couple for changing out. Unfortunately when I popped my ccm open it was clear that my temp sensor was different and that it could not simply be unscrewed and removed. Mine is from an 02.

Anyone have any experience swapping the entire CCM out? Just wondering if I need to switch like for like or not.

Swapped out on my 2001, but first try carefully taking it apart and cleaning it, as well as the vent slots.

From what I recall, 2001-02 were the same, and 2003-04 were the same, but could not be interchanged.

Ok I was thinking same - I will continue to keep my eyes open for a 2001-2002 ccm at the local wreckers.

Yes: https://forums.swedespeed.com/showth...e-Control-Unit Note that there seems to be various acronyms for the electronic climate control unit/module. I had better luck spelling out the name of the unit when searching on YouTube.

Here's a link to a thread of mine of my experience with this...

I have successfully swapped out my CCM for a used unit which I believe is from the same model year. The key is matching the part number of your CCM. I would look for one that has matching buttons, although from what others have stated before (such is an my linked thread above), the bottom row buttons don't need to match yours, and you can just swap yours in. In any event, the CCM that I found and bought on eBay, ended up being an identical match right down to the sticker on the back being only one number off from mine, not by the part number, but the production number or whatever it is which is also located on a similar sticker inside of the unit affixed to the PCB board. No reprogramming was required, it just plugged and played and worked just like my old one did.

One recommendation I'd do first is remove your CCM, and clean out the area of the temp sensor which is very prone to collecting dust bunnies and debris in there and around the little fan that powers that part which is attached to the back of the CCM unit. The little fan is attached by 2 screws, so very easy to remove and clean out. Using canned air, or moderate air from a compressor, you would also want to blow out any dust and debris from the front of the sensor area at the front of the CCM.

If your sensor is actually broken and you're comfortable with soldering and working with electronics, this DIY task of replacing the thermistor might be your best bet...

Also a very informative video about the temp sensor or "thermistor" as it's called from member Orange here on Swedespeed is located here...

Lastly, good luck on whichever route you chose to go.
