      Advice

      Have a chance to pickup a 2012 S60 T5 84K for a good price...It is a 62 engine code ...piston rings..timing belt..brakes...plugs...done at dealer at 65k. Seller says that it doesn't burn anymore. What should I do? Currently have a 2008 V50 which I would keep for now...HELP!...V50-SEMA

Coming from owing an S40 for 10 years to now having an S60, the difference in ride is quite a bit. I find the S40 was like a car on rails and extremely fun to drive aggressively. The S60 is more refined and as far as I am concerned a nicer ride overall, just not that good in hard corners.

Since the engine code falls within the problem area AND the work was done, I would be inclined to ask the seller if they can show maintenance records for the car. Is he/she the original owner or second owner. Where was the regular maintenance done? If you can find our where regular maintenance was done, you might be able to talk to a tech from there and see if they remember the car. They might be able to give you a little more and put some concerns to rest.

The last record is the work done at the dealer at 65K....says he changed the oil with synthetic but not at dealer....until then all dealer serviced...spoke to dealer they said it was ok after rings etc were replaced....just trying to see if the consumption typically reoccurs after the rings etc are replaced.

Went from S40 to V60 now. Love the move. My understanding is if the oil problem was taken care of by the dealer then you should be fine.

I would agree with the others. If the work was done on the rings and moved to full synthetic, I think you should be okay. From what others have also said, the problem seems to go away after the replacement. If the car is in good shape, go for it. You'll like the car.
