Auto Volvo C30 T5 driveshaft interchangeable with manual?

      Hi All!

Happy to be a Volvo owner, I had the luck to buy a totalled AUTO c30 t5 with only 30k miles on it for pennies and get to know it inside out. So i fell in love with the car, especially after taking it for a drive, it and bought one with 90k miles on it (MANUAL). It's in great shape, but it's 90k miles so things start to fail.

Please don't crush my dreams and tell me that i can fit the auto trans passenger side driveshaft onto the manual trans model.

Thanks, and if i can contribute with any specific bit on disassembling the car, i have it quite fresh still!

They’re not interchangeable. I think the manual passenger is longer due to the lack of torque converter or something like that.

Thanks a lot for this reply. I did some more digging and you're exactly right, part numbers for the AW-55 and the M66 transmissions are different.

Now i could find a VIDA screenshot that shows some part numbers for the M56 and M66 gearbox. On the one hand, there are different part numbers on some of the bits, but on the other hand, there are ebay sellers that list the "right drive shaft" as compatible with the C30 T5 and C30 2.4 models.

This has me wondering whether i could fit a M56 driveshaft in my M66 gearbox.

      Anyone knows this?

I have a good Volvo M66 right axle. I only took it out because my C30 is now M66 AWD

Not to steal thunder, but what’s the condition/miles/etc of that axel, and how much do you want for it if it’s for sale and should op not need it? Also, AWD C30 is friggin baller! Do you have a thread for the swap process!

Send you OEM ones out to CVJ axles in Denver for rebuild or FCPEuro.com is the only place with them new OEM with lifetime warranty for around $500.

Otherwise, the price above is great since no vibrations!!

Returning to this one, a parts store tells me that the m56 driveshaft is compatible with the m66 transmission. But again, VIDA tells me that some part numbers are different.

So does a m56 passenger side drive shaft fit a m66 transmission?

Do not listen to LAPS or non euro parts specialist. Period.

The inner end splines are different. The rest of the axle assembly may in fact be the same

      Don't see why it wouldn't.

M58 (5 spd AWD) axles fit the M66 AWD, I used them in my old 500AWHP '98 V70, since no manual axles existed for that chassis with AWD, all US AWD models were auto.

However, the later (early 2K''s-on with internal slave) M56 may have different splines, they did also change the input shaft on that when the design changed to DM setup/internal slave.

Only way to be certain would be to get a pic of the spline count & compare, unless manydubs is speaking from personal experience?

Remove ABS ring? Then it might work?
