That chart can't be right, can it? I think they meant 1,392 S60 II sales, not S60CC sales. But the refreshed XC90 taking off!

Yes, that looks like a typo in the chart. Volvo must be pretty happy with these results, breaking records month after month. I am a little surprised to see XC60 sales off but I think the XC40 has a role in that.

Could be time for some incentives for the XC60.

They also quoted 2018s number in the article. Nov 2019 sales were 9,635 units. Proofers must still be recovering from the Thanksgiving holiday

Decent month for the V60CC too considering all the wagon hate. That could also be eating into XC60 sales.

Partly. I imagine part of it is just how many were sold in 2018 following all of the press and Car of the Year wins. That would be a hard act to follow, and if your little brother is suddenly hogging the limelight then it's natural that its sales have fallen back to earth a bit. Even at that it accounts for something like 1/3rd of Volvo's US sales. I wonder how it's doing in other markets?

They probably allocate more XC60 XC40 in Europe, as bigger XC90 is better for America.

Volvo Cars reports 11.6% global sales growth in November

Volvo Cars reports 11.6 per cent global sales growth in November

      Dec 04, 2019 ID: 260918

Volvo Cars maintained a strong sales momentum in November, with global volumes up 11.6 per cent, compared with the same period last year. The company sold a total of 62,550 cars during the month as it continued to grow faster than the industry in all three regions of US, China and Europe.

For the January to November period, the company’s global sales reached 631,213 cars from 582,096 cars in the same period last year, a growth of 8.4 per cent.

The strong performance in the year has put Volvo Cars firmly on course to set a new global annual sales record in 2019. In the full year 2018, the company sold 642,253 cars.

The double digit growth in November was on the back of continued high demand for Volvo Cars’ award winning SUVs. The XC60 was the highest selling car for the company in the month, followed by the XC40 and the XC90. The V60 estate, the V60 Cross Country and the S60 sedan also contributed to the volume growth.

European sales in November grew 5.3 per cent, compared with the same period last year, to 29,261 cars. The top selling models in the region during the month were the XC60, the XC40 and the V60 estate.

Sales in the European region for the first eleven months were up 6.2 per cent, compared with the same period last year to 306,381 cars. Markets like the United Kingdom and Germany reported a volume growth of 13 per cent and 20.3 per cent respectively in the January to November period, and they beat their overall 2018 sales performance, with a month still in hand.

Volvo Cars’ sales in China were up 26.7 per cent in November, compared with the same period last year to 14,502 cars. The strong growth in the region was led by the demand for the locally produced XC60, the S90 and the XC40.

Sales in China in the January-November period, grew 16.3 per cent, compared with the same period last year to 138,053 cars. The company’s strong performance means that China beat its full year 2018 sales performance within the first eleven months.

US sales in November reached 9,635 cars, up 17.8 per cent, compared with the same period last year. XC90 was the top selling model in the region, followed by the XC60 and the XC40.

The company continued to grow faster than the industry in the US for the first eleven months, with sales up 7.2 per cent, compared with the same period last year to 95,874 cars.

That being the case, the BEV XC90 will need at least 300 miles of range, EPA, for me to buy it in a couple of years.

I was ready for a BEV now, so I traded in the Volvo for a Hyundai Kona.

China's auto sales sank 5.4% in November from a year ago, yet Volvo sales up 26.7% in China.

I’ll beat a dead horse again...

Perhaps their US sales would be a bit better if they spent just a little ad money on the best wagon around. The V90.

I still get random strangers asking about our 2018 V90 T6 Inscription. Latest was a gent I met a couple of days ago, he was walking around our Maple Brown/Amber in a grocery store parking lot. It quickly became a game of 20 questions...

One question, “is this Volvo’s best kept secret?”

Another, “why have I never seen anything about this car?”

His final comment, “this is the most beautiful car I’ve EVER SEEN!” Emphasis his...

Flummoxed, I am. Stepping off the soapbox now.

PS. The gentleman was driving a newish Lexus 350ES. I think he can afford a Volvo.

There is actually a great question: where did people see cars they are interested to buy?

Dealer? Road? Shopping mall? TV? movie theater ads? youtube, facebook, twitter?

It is really hard to show people something at the right time when they want to look at.

      Very interesting point!

I’ve seen ads in magazines, TV, and Facebook for a variety of Volvo models. See them pretty frequently, but then I notice things like Volvo ads. But I’ve yet to see one that shows a V90.

Guess I’m not actually complaining. One thing I actually like (a lot) is the exclusivity (real word? LOL) of my Maple Brown V90 Inscription. In the two years since I first became aware of the model (in a European online magazine) I’ve seen three. Mine, one in Oregon, and one Seattle Volvo special ordered for a demo.

It just seems from the random “person on street” compliments I’ve had, that there’s an untapped market out there. Just seems odd.

      Departing soapbox in 3, 2, 1....

      Cheers!
      Bill
