      Another 2007 V70R Thread

Hey all! Iíve been meaning to post here, but life has a way of moving along. Back in June I flew down to GA to drive home a 2007 slicktop Titanium Grey over Nordkap GT V70R, and Iím in love.

Iíd been (as all of us have at one point or another) browsing car sites for VRs, and happened upon a listing for a car down in GA Ė the front end looked a little worse for wear, but the price, mileage and options were right. I chatted with the guy and got him to lower the price a little, and I was in. I enlisted a friend and flew down sight unseen, handed the Ford Diesel mechanic who had bought it from an auction $7500, and away we went.

I tracked down the original owner (Iím the 2nd) and it turns out he had taken delivery in South Korea, and later brought it to the states Ė apparently the only VR ever delivered to SK according to him. He had traded it in on a Tesla, and when we talked, he was happy it went to someone whoíd take care of it.

Here's a shot of it next to my 2.5T which lives with my brother now, and another with @ZZZZZZZ's 2007 VR.

I'm especially hype because it has parking sensors + the RTI screen, which I wouldn't be able to easily retrofit, but doesn't have premium audio, which is a relatively easier job! See my junkyard haul from the other day below...I also picked up premium tweeters when I was helping my brother grab a premium system for his 2.5T the other day.

I'll be posting about stuff I'm doing to it periodically, just happy to be daily driving my dream car It's currently got 140k on the clock, and I fully intend to drive it as long as I can, between FCP parts and junkyards I anticipate it'll be a while!

Welcome! I picked up my 4th P2R recently, an 06 Magic Blue Gobi VR GT. Where in Southern PA are you? I'm actually going to be knocking out a bunch of maintenance on Friday.

That's a rad color combo! Was definitely thinking about doing an interior swap at some point....wife prefers Gobi to Atacama, I think she's crazy I'm in the Gettysburg area, what you got planned?

First few things I did to the car - replaced gas cap hinge
Seat belt guide was broken, replaced that

      Replaced broken rear wiper
And bonus, here's it parked next to a Skyline.

It's great to see a few other "R" owners here in South Central PA. Question..... are there any local, independent Volvo repairman around???? I've got the alarm module battery to replace and the price of $650+(Lehman) seems to be a bit steep.

It's a relatively easy DIY job to replace the module.

I"m assuming that a Vidas download would be required? Is a "used" module worth buying?

There is an initialization procedure of sorts that you can do in your garage but no Vida download required.

The used ones are fine if they are cheap enough, like $25 from my local pull a part but just realize they all go bad at some point so the fix with a used part may be temporary.

Some folks go in through the headlight to access. I did mine from the wheel well.

Details? I've got a good woodworking shop but not much in the car repair end.

ps. It's great to see someone that's been here longer than I have.

Going through the headlight is way easier! All bolts, no rivets. I'm also interested in the calibration process, what's the deal with that?

Does that include cutting/removing the security bolt to the unit?

ps. It's great to see someone that's been here longer than I have.
I did this repair several years ago so I don't recall exactly what I did though I know it didn't involve Vida. There are several youtube videos out there that would probably explain it.

Details? I've got a good woodworking shop but not much in the car repair end.

Knock out a search, I did it YEARS ago on my second or third P2R. Essentially you pop off the wheel liner (drilling out a bunch of rivets) and it's right there. Super easy.

Does that include cutting/removing the security bolt to the unit?
No - no way getting around having the remove the security screws but to be honest it wasn't all that hard. I used a needle nose vise grip and they came loose without a lot of trouble.

You DO NOT have to replace the security screw if you go through the headlight. The bracket can stay on the car without having to drill out anything. You simply remove the two nuts holding the siren in, remove the clip, and slide out.
