      M66 Rebuild question

I've had my C30 for about a year now, and when I purchased it apparently it had the wrong size axle on the right side. It ran dry of oil for the manual transmission. I managed fix the issue and refill the transmission but only now 10 months later it seems to be making clacking noises and my mechanic thinks it may need to be replaced.

Are there any rebuild kits out there or is the better route to purchase a used transmission and just swap it?

I have a 2011, which I think that means it is the later M66 Transmission.

      Any information will be appreciated.

Get a 2nd opinion since this is an major repair. Is he an Independent Volvo specialist?

Buying a used one would be the cheaper route in regards to "better" as for affordable.

He's independent but not a Volvo specialist. I'm in a small town so I take my car to someone I trust. I'm leaning towards just buying a used transmission if that's what I need.

Clacking noise might also be the dual mass flywheel going bad. Def get a second opinion from someone who knows modern Volvos.

If the transaxle was run for any length of time without oil, it's toast. Mine developed a balky reverse after just being a quart low for a few hundred miles when my left axle unseated. Just get a used transaxle & be done with it. There are no rebuild kits. It is possible to replace all the bearings, but not from Volvo. Seals you can get from them.

VandSautodismantlers in CA has much better prices than erieVoVo, but no warranty.

Buying a new transaxle is what I'm leaning towards at this point. The balky reverse gear is a similar symptom to what I have as well. Did you ever experience any symptoms in the steering as well?
