      FOB remote for selling car

      Hey all,

I really wish I'd found this community years ago when I bought my 2004 S60R (6sp). Absolutely love the car and I've been the only owner for 15 years, but now I'm finally getting ready to sell my S60R. Problem is that I haven't had a working remote FOB for years now. Dropped the remotes one too many times, so I've basically been manually locking/unlocking it I have two keys left (valet and regular) but the on the regular key none of the FOBs functions work (lighting, unlock, lock, etc). I've called 3rd party locksmiths to replace it but nobody touches Volvo. I'm on the fence about getting a new FOB so I can have remote entry to make the car more appealing. Do you guys think it's really important have a working FOB when selling it. Thanks for your time.

      Cheers.

I suppose you'll have to consider the value of your car to decide if the cost of a new fob and programming is worth it. I had an extra fob and valet key done for my 05 S60 AWD and it cost my around $300 at an indie shop. A dealer will probably cost a bit more. If I were buying your car I'd definitely like to have a working fob.

I was able to repair mine with a new fob body off Amazon.

You have to take the old one completely apart and swap the internals over, I found that the battery contact had broke in my old one and they new body had a good replacement.

Here is the video that helps, you have to cut the top section apart to get at the transponder.

I was thinking along the same lines, that if it broke from being dropped, then it could be repaired.

Here's what the innards look like. Yeah, I was bored at work one afternoon and threw my key fob in the x-ray.
