      Rotor size??

I’m sure that I am making this harder than it needs to be.... trying to put new rotors and pads on my wife’s 2016 XC90 T6 Momentum. The dealer told me that it has 18” (457mm) on the front and 17” (431mm) on the rear. When I shop various online stores I see 366, 345, and 320mm options. Would someone please reconcile the size differences for me? I really appreciate any help or recommendations!

To my recollection, no vehicle has 18" rotors, much less 17". I assume the dealer was mistaken.

Pretty sure your dealer is wrong. Those would be some discs. I just looked up the Bugatti Veyron (max speed 415 km/hr!) and it only has 400mm/380mm discs.

There is some conjecture around Volvo’s nomenclature; it’s possible the sizing is a reference to the smallest wheel diameter that can be used, but who knows. I probably just need to take the wheels off and measure, surely I can measure accurately enough to distinguish between 366/345/320mm.

The dealer was not mistaken. For 2016, front are referred to by either 18" or 19". Rears either 17" or 18". It is obviously not the rotor size. How it translates to aftermarket options? No idea.

While the numbers appear to be incorrect, My 2017 XC90 T8 has 19 on the front and 18 on the rear. This was straight from Volvo. Now the issue is to determine how do I interpret these numbers. For my car I found out that I have 371mm on the front and 340 on the rear. I ended up going with StopTech and they provided 366 mm for the front and 340 for the rears. The cross drilled and slotted rotors fit perfectly and worked with he OEM pads. I paid around $500 for front and back delivered. Try www.buybrakes.com

Thanks drmanny3, how did you come to the conclusion on 366/340? Calling StopTech or BuyBrakes?

That represented the sizes that are available in an aftermarket rotor. I even checked with Racing Brake who make aftermarket two piece rotors for various applications. I could not convince them that there were enough XC90 owners who would opt for a two piece rotor. It was not the rotor that was the problem. They can use one of the many sizes they have to create the combination. The problem is they would need to make a caliper extension that was unique to our car. So I was unable to make that happen. The StopTech were the next best thing. The T8 does not use the brakes in the same way as the T5 or T6. The setup I have should last a long time. The aftermarket sizes are 366, 345, 340, and 320 as I recall for the XC90.
