      Need advice on weird driving

Hey guys, my car is a 2012 S60 T6 R-Design. When driving, mostly at higher speeds, the car randomly “sways” back and forth while driving completely straight, doesn’t seem to happen on curves. Been told by my mechanic that the entire suspension looks great and I recently had an alignment done and new tires less than 6 months ago. Anyone had this issue or might know what it could be?

Did the weird driving sensation start with the installation of new tires? I've had something similar when I put on winter tires on the front with all season tires on the back of the vehicle.

Does you car have the lane-keeping assit option? My car does, and I often feel it nudging the car away from lane markings (or at least what it thinks are lane markings).

      Toe-out will have that symptom

Rutted roads, and as mentione crosswinds will do it

I’ve had this happen when driving on the highway behind large vehicles, even without being close behind them

I would expect some feedback in the steering wheel when the car sways left and right. What are you feeling with your hands?

No crosswinds from what I can tell. Alignment should be fine as I avoid holes and hitting the curb and such, but I will probably get it checked again. It wasn’t directly after new tires, it only started a month or so ago and new tires were several. And absolutely no feedback from the car, it sways and I don’t feel anything in the steering wheel

If your car has "Four C" active suspension, it could be that the electronic system is hunting for a level body platform in some conditions, as the road surface undulates. My 2005 S60 has passive suspension, with no shock absorbers being connected to any of the many electronic modules on board. I believe that the active suspension system has several modes that can be selected by the driver. You might try a selecting a different mode.

Do you notice the problem on certain stretches of road?

Some sections of freeways have parallel grooves running along them for better wet weather safety.

In cars with certain tires there can be some "tramlining" on such roads which slightly steers the car the car one way or the other. Worse with directional tires. It's not specific to Volvos.

See this TireRack article about it.

Interesting, have Sumitomo htr a/s po2 tires and it says they are directional so that might be it, I will need to pay more attention to the road while it happens. Don’t have 4C as it’s an R-Design, but I will try the different driving preferences
