      Volvo Drive-E 2.0 Motor (316 hp) -vs- Mercedes M139 2.0 Motor (416hp)

Mercedes recently released the M139 4-cylinder engine. This will be their new volume production, corporate motor used in various configurations and power levels in everything from sedate A and C-Classes all the way through their upper tier AMG performance vehicles.

Geely, who owns Volvo, also owns 10% of Daimler, who owns Mercedes.
I wonder how much, if any, technology share there was between the two companies. Interesting how MB was able to get an extra 100hp out of the same displacement level.

Have Volvo given up on the 450HP tri-turbo 2.0L engine?

Well, Volvo and Geely merged the engine division and Geely and Merc maybe will also share some engine work. Will be interesting to see if Volvo will use a few MB engine or vise versa.

Volvo & Mercedes are already discussing joint combustion engine development, although no final decision has been made as this point. Here's the article: https://www.autoblog.com/2020/01/05/...ration-report/

I think that was only a halo technology demonstrator to show what the 2.0 engine is capable of when brought into its highest capable state of power output. But it probably wasn't reliable - or at least reliable or durable enough to be used for consumer applications.

      Knew nothing about this.
      Thanks for sharing.
It would only make sense that they collaborate - especially when Geely being Chinese and China being the largest vehicle growth market on the planet.
Benz would probably find China's notoriously protectionist government more accommodating and flexible by partnering with a Chinese owned company.
