      Charles

I just bought a 2006 v70 2.5T, and I was made to understand that the transmission filter is not accessible, so I am thinking to install an in line Magnefine magnetic oil filter. Question, has anyone done this installation, and is this a good or bad idea? Thanks Chas.

Yep, I’ve installed one. Easy stuff. Can’t hurt.

Yea, a 3/8" one on the return line from the transmission is a common addition around here.

Question, I am assuming that the oil flow is from the top of the radiator (Green plastic lock) to the top of the transmission (drivers side), and where did you tuck the filter? Thanks for all your help, Chas.

Yes, you have the flow direction correct. I misspoke abut the return line when I meant to say the feed line is where people put the filter. Pics below of this on my V70 NA. If you can loosen the fitting on the transmission you can swivel things and make it fit nicely, otherwise you have to remove length from the line so it doesn't kink when installed, thus starving the transmission.

Thanks a lot for these pictures, great help. Question, how often (miles) do you replace this filter? I will get this installed and post the results; thanks a bunch Chas.

I only have ~10kmi on mine thus far. My recollection is that folks tend to replace them when they change the transmission fluid, so 30-60kmi depending on who you ask.

I do mine every 30k mi along with a fluid change. They work and I highly recommend installing one.

Would like to thank you all for all the information you supplied in installing this transmission filter! Completed the job today, coupled with the installation of a tranny oil cooler with two small fans, and a 130 degree F thermal switch attached to the radiator top hose. The installation went well, because with the cooler installation I had more hose and space to get the filter in. Thanks again for all your help, Chas.
