ECM-2B00 - 2007 XC70 - What does this mean and what should be replaced?

      So, bit of a mystery...

Randomly got an ECM-2B00 code a couple days ago. Looked it up to find:

      Definition:
Fuel Temperature Sensor (Signal Too High Or Too Low)

      Description:
The engine control module (ECM) checks the signal from the fuel temperature sensor. The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the engine control module (ECM) registers a fault in the signal from the fuel temperature sensor. The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed when the ignition is switched on. NOTE: The fuel temperature is set to a calculated value.

      Cause:
      Signal too high
Short-circuit to supply voltage in the signal cable
      Damaged fuel temperature sensor
      Signal too low
Short-circuit to ground in the signal cable
      Open-circuit in the signal cable
      Damaged fuel temperature sensor
So....what is a "Fuel Temperature Sensor" and where is it? I thought maybe the Fuel Pressure Sensor might have a temperature sensor in it, so I swapped it with one I had one hand, but then the code came back, so that was obviously not the problem. What next?

VIDA says ECM-2B00 is bad Engine Coolant Temperature sensor (on the thermostat). Check if wires are pinched, or replace the sensor itself.

How did you get VIDA to tell you that? It just says "Thermostat - Faulty Signal."

If that's the case, looks like it would be this:
      https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/p...5/9125463.html
      or this:
      https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/p...1/8653103.html
depending on whatever the car is equipped with.

I'll go give it a look.

Edit: Interesting...Looking back at previous owner's records, on 6/28/19, he had "Replaced Thermostat Housing, Hoses, & Coolant." Wonder if they messed something up when they did this.

Information -> Fault Tracing -> Diagnostic Trouble Codes and Associated Procedures.

Check the wiring first then. It is very easy to pinch them when removing the sensor.

I couldn't find any sings of the wires being pinched between the sensor and the wiring harness under the plastic injector cover.

ECM sees something. Either sensor or wires. Btw, wires shouldn't be twisted.

You think the green plug color is an indicator of a non-OEM part? I've read several places that aftermarket ECT's can be problematic.

I can't find any photos of a Volvo/OEM sensor plastic plug being green. It looks to me like perhaps the housing was replaced with a Dorman unit:

      The Borg Warner is gray:

And the Volvo ECT is black:
