      850R Volans on a 99 V70??

How bad is my ride going to be if I go from 15” stock V70 wheels to 17” Volans?
Car has stock springs, Koni FSDs and IPD sway bars. Plan on running 225X45X17 tires. Thanks

In FL? Probably going to like it. Will certainly be harder but drive much better.

225/45R17's were never particularly harsh on either of my two Saab 9-5 Aero's (2001 and 2004)but there are so many other aspects at play.

The 9-5 Aero weighs a little more and has different suspension.

The variable here is your aftermarket suspension. Very difficult to predict.

Thanks for the input.. I will probably decrease tire width to 215 to prevent rubbing inner fender liner..I also have a new set of H&R sport springs #29958 that I bought for the old 850R..they are sedan springs though..rear springs might be different? Thought about putting them on at one time but figured that the ride from them coupled with the 17” wheels would be too harsh on my older bones. Might be selling them if they won’t work.

I had 17's on that generation, driving around in Vancouver, BC. It's all good, not too harsh at all. I was going to suggest you look into 215's vs. 225. I recall 225 rubbing on hard turns.

My T5 is on Volans, H&R, with Koni yellows up front and SRT's on back.
Decent ride but not perfect and I do not blame the 17" wheels. Its more about the Shock/spring setup. I have them set at full firm, and believe SRT's are essentially the full soft setting of the yellows.
I see you have the FSD's which I think will be a good setup.

When I first purchased the T5 it had IPD lowering springs and SRT's, and was hitting the bump stops frequently. Was not a good setup.

Ride is important, but Volans do so much for the look of an 855 or a p80 V70.

Thank you all for the great input...Volans are going on for sure. Still toying with the idea of using the H&R sport springs for the sedan P80...lowering is not as much as the wagon sport springs..1.2 front, 1.0 rear
versus 1.3 for the wagon sport springs.
I assume the H&R front sedan spring is the same as the front H&R wagon spring?
Maybe the rear springs are different rate?
Don’t know if they will work..just hate to sell them and have to buy a wagon set instead. Does anyone know if they will work? Guess I could call IPD and ask.
      Thanks

Dunno where those numbers come from, wagon (29955) and sedan (29958) lower the respective cars the same amount. Sedan springs in a wagon will be slammed in the rear.

Heres a fresh set of H&R 29955 wagon springs in the nautic 99 t5m:

I may need a set of sedan springs for a friend.

      NICE!
Sedan H&Rs are posted up for sale.
I’m refinishing the Volans with that same dark grey metallic as yours. Sweet ride!

The correct Volvo Anthracite Grey color code is 932.
It's very easy to color these rims (or any rim) too dark. I personally really like the 932 color and will be refinishing my 18" pegs to match my stock Volans.

      Also... nice ride Scottish..!
And for more encouragement, another emerald on Volans back when it had ~100 miles on new H&R springs.

I love my volans w/ 225/45 and 10mm spacers to avoid rub on a P80 awd, but I do cringe over bumps with refresh stock suspension. Worse with Bilstein+Ipd springs.

I am headed toward coilovers and fresh subframe bushings to ease the ride.

Thanks for all the information. I personally don’t like the dark charcoal colors or dark colors on wheels...makes them look dirty all the time. Therefore I will use the Volvo 932 code paint. Hopefully my paint shop can match it up fine. Also need them to mix up some 189-26 white paint for the front and rear bumper covers.
Don’t know if I want to go the 10mm spacer route to run wider tires or not.

225/45/17 BF Goodrich G force all seasons. The front springs are stock while the rears are "overload" Lemforder springs from FCP (Slightly higher ride and stiffer spring). IPD sways front and rear and FSD shocks. I would say the ride is soft compared to my 06 VR that is stock in comfort mode. I drive this thing in and around Boston daily and it's my go to for the comfortable car to bring into town.
