      Exhaust mod options

      Hey Guys,
my S60 build is now at the performance stage in its transformation, I've gotten the car more or less visually the way i want it, interior and exterior give or take some questionable mods lol...
but i wan to now focus on gaining some more performance and sound.
I currently have the Vaitrix intake, polestar sway bar clone (in the making), the polestar tune, and Racechip is on the way. Whats missing is exhaust, power and sound.

I know of 2 members here that have done some amazing exhaust work, one where the muffler was deleted and straight piped, an dthe other which had a full custom job done. I love both!

Im curious does any one know if a resonator delete or muffler delete with shoot any error codes CEL?
on my audi i was able to add a res-delete to give the car i nice throaty sound... not sure if the same will be for the volvo?

i also know theres companies like HEICO that sell a premade kit, but WOW that price!!!!

so what do you guys have, what do you suggest. my gaol is to get a nicer sound, but also having more HP wouldnt hurt, i just dont want to have any issues with warranty too..

Personally I've been looking at that Heico Exhaust.. The price is high, but it's a quality product by a reputable brand; designed for the cars we drive. If that's out of your range and you know some folks that can do good muffler work to your liking, that's always a nice option.

Bastuck makes a good quality system: https://shop.bastuck2.de/index.php?c...&hg2=500210040

I think Bastuck makes the Heico exhaust systems (they're probably Heico's exhaust supplier).

You can get a complete system with noticeably larger mid-pipes (70mm) that lack a resonator, or you can get just the muffler (along with an adapter to fit the stock mid-pipe).

The full system should yield good power gains since the pipes are definitely larger than stock, and there's no resonator. The muffler only option would be good for someone who just wants a sportier (not too loud) sound. Even with just the muffler, performance should improve slightly since it's a turbo car. I'm trying to get one on order.

There is a valve in the exhaust, I think on the pass side if I remember seeing it when I was installing the mud guards. I wonder if you delete just the right side muffler...

There is one giant muffler with the single exhaust pipe from the resonator feeding into the middle and two pipes left and right to the exhaust tips
Deleting the right side would not help with the airflow

Ahhh right I forgot it is a single muffler. Must be a sort of dual path muffler. Guess that makes it complicated to Fab something up that uses the valve. I do wonder how it sounds if you override it to be open all the time.

For the price of the heico they should make an integration with the stock switching system for that.

The valve is opened in Dynamic drive mode. It makes a little difference in sound but I suspect the extra opening is for the turbo exhaust to escape with less obstruction

I think if we do a res delete + a Y pipe deleting the muffler the car will sound amazing and must add more HP. Only issue would be possible drone...

The drone is real real bad. It is almost undrivable
      The stock pipe is 2.5"

In your experience using the flowmaster do you think with the res delete and the muffler delete will still have a drone??

The custom shop did cut the res out for a test run. It is LOUD, but it sounds like a cheap car with a broken exhaust

The bass is pretty good with res+Flow. At a few Cars and Coffee, I get quite a few good comments about it

How did you figure that out? I know it's open on cold start. Just based on the sound change it seems to open up in other modes when you get on the throttle. But it's tough to be sure just by guessing. Did you probe it with a test light or something? Is it PWM variable or just switched on/off?

What cars have the exhaust valve? Is this only on redesign trims ? I did not look under but by driving in different modes I did not hear exhaust difference.

Most likely with DHL, or FedEx. I wasn't able to find a dealer in the US, but I've contacted them directly. I'll post the prices if they get back to me.

Appreciate that. I've also checked the bimmer forums, looks like the last U.S. shop stopped offering Bastuck sometime in 2016. Would like to know how their unit sounds. I remember their units do not sound obnoxious at all.

Great info, thanks! I have a feeling their dealer in NJ isn't very active with their products, so i'm trying a different route. If their US dealer is active, they're not doing a very good job. I had never heard of Bastuck as a brand/company until I did some part number searches on Volvo mid-pipes (and I work in the automotive industry myself!).

Why do you think this is a cool option?
With our 2L 4 cylinder engine, the base sound is not very good, and IMHO, there is a danger of the exhaust sounding like a Honda with a cheap exhaust

We're going to be offering the Bastuck system on the Eurocompulsion site soon (they make systems we will be using for other vehicle platforms as well).

Hopefully we can get some sound clips up and pricing available for NA buyers soon.

My friends company received a quote on the exhaust. He's verifying shipping costs to California. Please PM me if you're interested.

I'm debating between getting just the muffler (without flap), or the full system without flap. The only issue with a full system seems to be that it's designed for euro cars which have a petrol particulate filter. I wasn't sure if US S60's also have a petrol particulate filter. That would affect the length of the mid pipes, and would determine if the Euro spec full system is a bolt-on for US cars, or if the mid pipes would need modification to fit a US car. The muffler however is a bolt-on, and requires an adapter they sell to make the larger muffler bolt-on to the stock mid pipe.

Installation for the flap system is overly complicated, and requires splicing into the vehicles rear electrical harness, which I'm not comfortable having done.

Got some goodies in the mail from magnaflow!

I originally wanted to go with flow master FX, but when checking out the price of the shipping to Montreal was almost double the cost of the muffler!! Hope this one does the trick...
