V8 Power Steering Pump Replacement Time - Lessons Learned?

Whelp, I waited too long to get around to this, and the pump finally gave out on my son yesterday. We’re hoping to tackle this Friday, along with the serp belt and pulleys/tensioner.

Going to use R-Pow3R3d’s awesome sticky for the belt and pulleys. Volvo XC90 & S80 V8 - How-To: Serpentine Belt, Tensioner & Idler Pulleys Replacement

Plan is to follow VIDA for the rest of the ps pump replacement steps, but I welcome any tips/tricks from those who have already been down the path!

The 2 O-rings that seal the lines going into the pump should be replaced. I`ve heard they can`t be sourced from Volvo. I bought an O-kit and matched it up. They are a metric size and don`t go by number. On initial start up, sometimes you`ll get a gut wrenching squeal until the pump has bled itself.

Thanks, Thommy. I saw that as well, and asked the parts guy at my dealer to order them (p/n 988119). He’s giving me a break on the pump, intake manifold gaskets, & O rings, as well as not charging me for the overnight delivery.

Likely would have been able to get all this much cheaper had I been preventive rather than reactive, but I am where I am - and my dealer’s service dept has been pretty good to me about letting me do my own work with their input.
