How to Remove Blank Switches from Dash?

So I've spent a while looking online, and can't find anything. I have this great idea to wire a switch/button in one of the wires going to the TCV and then mount it in place of one of the blank buttons near the bottom of the center column. The idea being that (since I've been having issues when boost gets over 15psi) I can drive normally and be careful not to hit that 15 mark, but when I want to wring it out or give it to someone else to drive, I can just hit that switch and dump everything to the 5psi wastegate without having to dig around in the engine. My genius knows no bounds, I know.

The issue I have is that, after completely tearing apart the entire dash unit yesterday, circuit board and face plate off and everything, I still couldn't figure out how to remove one of the blank buttons from the unit. I think it would make my life a lot easier to have it out before drilling the hole, or maybe even turn it into a working button. Does anyone know how to remove these in a non-destructive manner?

The blank switches come out, after removing the cover trim pice.
      They just pull out.
This is assuming you are on about the ones along the bottom, just in front of the gear leaver.

Yes, it turns off the interior alarm sensor and vehicle motion sensor. For leaving pets in the car or if you’re on a Carferry. Or windy weather.

Very cool! That would be a neat alarm feature to have. I believe that mine only covers the doors, boot and bonnet.

Originally I thought I must just be an idiot, but upon further inspection of your pictures I realized I have a different button layout than yours. I am talking about those same buttons, but mine has a cover panel that covers the entire lower part of the dash unit, not just an oval-ish shaped section in the middle. Here is a link to the picture (can't figure out how to actually post the image here...) https://www.dropbox.com/s/iuupgwnu3z...74429.jpg?dl=0

Not the best picture, but it was the only one I had, and you can see what I'm talking about pretty clearly... It's a different style faceplate down there, and I think it's different...

There are three different panels shown there.
The first two are pre face lift.
The last is the same as you one , with the silver trim removed.
But you don’t need to remove the silver trim to remove the switch cover.
It just gently needs prying up.

The reason for three panels is I happened to have them about, in the states shown, so did not have to dismantle anything.

Because you've been very helpful, I won't ask what you're doing with 3 separate, disassembled center consoles XD

Thanks for the clarification though. I'll dig back into it once finals are over and give it a shot!

I did have a pre facelift car, and had stripped a few control panels to make one good clean one.
Then when I got a 2006 car I did the same.
As the knobs are often all scratched up. So I removed the coating.
I am looking for some XC90 ones withe the silver rings to fit in my panel.
