Dead battery and locked out 2005 XC70

due to being isolated trying to protect the family from Covid-19, the 2005 XC70 has sat so long the battery is dead, and the single door key spot on the driver side does nothing.

Is there a spot under the car , or anywhere, that I can hook up a battery charger and back feed the battery long enough to activate door locks?

If not.....how do I get in the car???

      Regards,
      Mr. P

You can feed the power through the rear license plate light, it's enough for unlocking the driver's door with the fob.

If you have factory third row seat you should have a key slot on the trunk lid near the handle.

Dead battery and locked out 2005 XC70

I had to break into mine through front door last year. Sad how easy it was. Just get a clothes hanger and bend a hook on it. Then pull about 8” of the bottom moulding off of the front door window at bottom rear .Then slide the clothes hanger down with hook pointed backwards and slightly angled outwards. I think I had to go about 12” down to hook the bottom of rod assy. Just jig around for a while and you’ll get it.

At 7:30 in the video below you will see where the hook has to latch onto. You need to hook it just below where the vertical rod attaches to the two metal clips. An upward pull there will pop the door lock button at top of door upwards and unlocked.

      https://youtu.be/LOaGFZpblqs

Be as gentle as you can with that moulding though. I haven’t been able to totally straighten mine out since.

      Keep us posted.

You can pop the hood through the emergency release access under the front bumper. Just need a long hooked wire strong enough to pull the cable.

My '07 XC has the third-row seat. Just checked...NO keyhole for the lock.

It's also real easy to get to the lock pin with the string trick or a wire hanger. The top of the door flexes enough to feed something through. There's a million videos on youtube about the string trick.

The door lock trick is a lot harder on UK cars as they have dead locking that disconnect the lock pin and internal handles.

I have an old torn hood release cable(s) attached to the hood locks and accessible outside of the front bumper at all times.

Just in case I loose the key, I have a valet key in the fuse/relay electric box under the hood.

Just in case it gets lost, I have the real ID48 chip from the only key glued to the immobilizer antenna and hidden under the dash. Can unscrew the bottom cover of the steering column, unscrew the ignition switch and start the engine with a screwdriver.

I think it's not enough, because I don't usually carry torx bits with me, so might break the lock cylinder to get the engine started at any time with a screwdriver or pocket knife in the lock cylinder.

      Never lock my cars.

      Ok fellas I got in.

Here is the ONLY WAY TO GET IN

FORGET the license plate light re-charge thing, electricity won’t get by the relay to the battery. Tried that, after an hour screwing around with a meter, charger, etc I gave up.

Then I looked under the car EVERYWHERE for a battery cable, took off the grille and underside plastic hoping to find the alternator hot wire, took off a wheel for access, but in the end the tip about “top of the door will flex open” was the ticket.

I used several large screwdrivers to pry and give a little access, made a coat hanger hook with a 90-degree bend, and after a few minutes trying to fish it by the rubber seal I got it down there and bingo, was in, ten minutes.

What a piece of **** that Volvo design is. I think I will run a hot lead to the grille where I can get to it in the future but her, maybe I’ll just stay close to my big screwdrivers and a coat hanger.

      Thank you for that tip

This is the solution to 2005 Volvo engineering. Sad but true. I would still buy a 2005 XC70 if they’ve were making this exact same car, love it.

You had to use another battery or any other source of straight dumb +12V. Charger won't pass voltage if its electronics does not sense the battery is taking the charge.

This does not work if the car is equipped with deadlocks.
