      Dice makes me feel stupid...

I bought a Dice unit a few years back on e-bay, and downloaded the Vida package from Roxannaschram. I got the software to run on an older laptop by booting from a USB flash drive, but never tried the Dice interface until today.

It apparently talks to the software and the car as it figured out my VIN, the DICE test runs successfully, and the pretty lights flash but the diagnostics tab in VIDA is grayed out and I can't figure out how to get any information. (My CEL is on and it's inspection time.)

Any ideas what I haven't done yet? Does the DICE need to be connected up before I boot up the laptop?

      TIA,
      John C

Fill in every field in the profile tab and be sure to tic the "OK".

Yes, that's the only way to enable the Diagnostics tab. You're not the only one to be baffled by it! VIDA is one of the most user unfriendly pieces of SW I've ever seen.

Thanks for the quick replies! In my frustration, I guess I shut the laptop down wrong and corrupted the USB drive. Talk about adding insult to injury! Waiting for it to reload...

As some one who has used it for over 10 years ... 50+ personal cars ... still irritating to this day.
Trying to find a part is a random guess as to where Volvo decided to hide it and on what assembly.

So true! Something must of gotten lost in the Swedish to English translation.

You also need to specify a transmission before it will allow you to continue.

I am glad you posted that, I thought it was just me lol.
I have used lots of OEM diagnostic software and have always thought Vida was hiding things from me lol

      Cheers

It's not just the Svenglish; our versions aren't complete in some ways. The Wonderful Roxanaschram has said that the actual dealer software package is 4 discs, and we can only get 2, if you count the EWD (electrical wiring diagram). One aspect not available is other language versions, and the one I have stops short in transmission parts diagrams. It shows axle seals, but the list stops without revealing part numbers. It doesn't go anywhere inside the box. There must be another disc for transaxles, although the Volvo Parts diagram doesn't go very deep, nor do Tasco, FCP, etc. Maybe someone who knows can weigh in. Better yet, post the missing links.

Thanks guys, I was able to read the codes. Not what I was expecting. A problem with the vapor recovery test pump, or something like that.

The odd thing is that about half the time when I shut the laptop down, it won't reboot. I get an insentient beeping from the bios. After fussing with it and trying to boot from the hard drive, eventually it starts working again. Sometimes it acts like a key is stuck. Makes no sense... I'd try it on another computer, but last time I did that I had to reload the OS...

Oh, well, at least it did what I need.

OK, making progress, but still feeling stupid...

I'm getting P2421. Apparently there's a diagnostic you can run to tell what's really failing, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to run the diagnostic... Does the engine have to be running? (I think not since they suggest connecting a battery charger.)
