      AW55 GT Versus Non-GT

Are there any mechanical differences between an AW55 with Geartronic vs. a non-Geartronic? I thought the differences might only be in the TCM.

Also, what's the difference between an AW55-50SN and an AW55-51SN? Based on a small sample, the 51 appears to be the GT and the 50 is non-GT. Correct?

51 is 50 with all/most of major hardware problems fixed. 51 is more beefy and is considered as one of the best transmissions in its class.

Geartronic is a function of TCM, not hardware.

Thanks. In that case, I'll look for a 51. Any idea when the change was made? 05s look to be 50s and 07+ seems to be 51s. I thought the Geartronic function was strictly in the TCM.

You need to split both gearboxes and swap differential from your 50 to 51, I think. Otherwise you'll get a gear ratio mismatch error.

      MY05 XC70 is 51 for sure, I have 2 of them. MY02 V70 FWD was 50.

I have a 51. As long as I get another 51, I should be set.
