      Alternator question

I swapped a b5254t2 engine from a 2006 s60 into my 2003 xc70. I used the alternator from the old 2003 engine because the engine I swapped in didn’t come with one. But after starting the engine the battery light comes on and I get the electrical power system warning. Do I need to replace the alternator with one from an 06 s60? After doing some research I can see that they’re different alternators. But the ecm and engine harness and fuse box are all from the 03 xc70. How can it tell so quick on startup that it’s the wrong alternator? Or is it a wiring problem. Has anyone ever gone through this before? Ps the battery is brand new.

Check your alternator wiring/connectors. If everything looks ok you may need a new voltage regulator: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/vol...-bosch-8637851 Just because your old one is worn out.

If I were to replace the voltage regulator/ and or alternator. Should I get one for a 2006 s60? Or 2003 xc70. Also will a voltage regulator from a 2006 bolt on and work on the 2003 alternator? Again. The motor is from a 2006 s60. But the engine harness ecm fuse box and car is a 2003 xc70.

I had the opposite happen. I swapped in a 2005 engine complete with a 2005 alternator into my 2004 car. The CEM threw a battery not charging fault. I swapped in my 04 alternator onto the 05 block and it worked perfectly.
